Politicians vis-a-vis Representatives

Politicians only ask two questions when asked to take action.

Politicians ask how will this action help me get elected or stay in office? or How will this hurt my getting elected or staying in office?

The politican would argue that the people who vote for him determine whether he acted in their best interest or not. Therefore, the vote that helps him get re-elected is in fact the representative vote.
