Manchester mayor Frank Guinta has filed paperwork to run against Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-N.H.), and is expected to receive the blessing of the party establishment as he seeks to oust the second-term Democrat.

Guinta will be making a formal announcement of his candidacy next Wednesday.

The mayor of Manchester, the state’s largest city, Guinta has touted his success revitalizing the city while keeping taxes low. He served as a policy adviser for former Congressman Jeb Bradley before being elected mayor in 2005.

I think he ought to go right for the Senate.

“I think he ought to go right for the Senate.”

I understand your disappointment, DJ, but Guinta made a smart choice. Beating the moonbat Shea-Porter in the more Republican of the two NH CDs should certainly be easier than beating Hodes in the Senate race, and after a couple of terms in the House Guinta would be well positioned to run for the Senate or the governorship.

But, yeah, that still leaves us without a Senate candidate.

This is great news. I think Guinta would beat Che Porter straight up today. By ‘10 it will be a blowout.

I’m hoping we can convince Judd Gregg to rethink his retirement. Gregg is well respected, and with the climate turning against Dems here in NH, it’d be a cakewalk against the far-left Hodes.

What evidence do you have that NH voters are pissed off at the state Dems?

2 special elections in last 2 weeks. Both blowouts by GOP.

Bradley in Senate won 63 to 37. Garcia in House(4) won 67 to 32.

....Kevin Smith from Cornerstone Policy Research said, “Following up on the win by Senator Bradley last week, the voters in Salem and Windham tonight again sent a loud and clear message to the legislature that ‘Enough is Enough’ of the House’s out of control tax and spend policies, and out-of-touch radical social agenda. We believe the last two special elections are foreshadowing what is to come next November should the legislature continue to ignore the values and priorities of the voters.”

I suspect that NH has become more like VT and is nearing the point of being permanently lost.

Not yet, there are plenty of Republicans and conservative independents here in NH, and the margin of victory for many Democrats aren't that large.

The main reason the Democrats have been winning is the vastly larger monetary and people resources they have been able to bring to even minor races. We in New Hampshire have been besieged by outside groups pushing liberal Democratic candidates, and funding them.

A number of Democrats in state races spent ten times what their Republican rivals spent.

Our job as Republicans and conservatives is to catch up in money, organization and motivation. The results of the two special elections posted above show that it is possible to win with effort and focus.

It says Garcia is replacing a Republican same as Bradley. She was in office and apparently had different seat stolen from her after a recount sometime in the past.

Or the same seat? It’s confusing.

http://www.sos.nh.gov/general2008/rockrep08.htm

Those are the results from last year. Is this a (Rockingham 4) a 13 member seat?

As far as pickups we just gained a seat in South Carolina, And allegedly we gained a seat in Maine and one in Delaware, But lost one in Kentucky. I know nothing about those races.

I thought Bradley’s win was in a “Democrat district.” Was it Dem-leaning but held by a Republican?

It was held by a Republican.

The 2008 and 2006 results were close as opposed to Bradley’s blowout though.

I believe the state Democratic chair said the seat was never won by a Democrat (the article I read said never by a Republican but that’s obviously not true so I think it was a typo)
