A Republican House candidate from Alabama began running a television ad Wednesday featuring vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, making it the first congressional campaign commercial to include the Alaska governor.
"I'm supporting pro-lifers Sarah Palin and John McCain," state Rep. Jay Love, of Montgomery, says in the ad. The spot shows Palin together with GOP presidential nominee John McCain.
Love said ad is intended to highlight the differences between him and the Democratic candidate, Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright. He also said he wanted his would-be constituents to know he was proud to support McCain and Palin.
Campaigning as a conservative who opposes abortion and supports gun rights, Bright is giving Democrats a chance to win the 2nd Congressional District seat in southeast Alabama, which Republicans have held since 1964.
After Love's ad hit the airwaves, Bright began running a new ad in which he promises not to stoop to partisan politics.
Bright said Love's ad misrepresents his positions.
"The people of this district know where I stand," Bright said. "This is pure partisan politics, and we've got to rise above that. Sen. McCain, who is featured in his ad, said as much in his speech to the convention last week."

Funny how we go from the press speculating that Palin would be dropped off the ticket last week to the press wishing that Biden would be dropped this week.
Coattails for Palin in House and Senate races? Would be nice.
It is good to see Jay Love finally starting to fight back at Bobby NOT Bright.
Bright is trying to sell himself as a Conservative, when everyone knows he will vote straight Dem in Washington. he has already endorsed Obama and tied himself to him.
They are trying to pull a fast one, and he is handing out signs all over town - “I am a Bright Republican”.
Love finally started getting signs out this weekend that say “Say NO to Barack & Bright”.
It is a tough sell though, thousands of Montgomery residents are thinking of voting for Bright just so we can get his stupid liberal arse out of the Mayor’s Office.
Have you read? Biden is floating a trial balloon about how Hillary would have been a better choice than him.
Actually, notice that the Dem Mayor of Montgomery responds *correctly* to the ad. Now compare his response to the national Dems who toss unlimited mud at Governor Palin instead of taking the high road.
There’s a lesson here...
Campaigning as a conservative who opposes abortion, supports gun rights and will vote for Pelosi as Speaker of the House, Bright is giving Democrats a chance to win the 2nd Congressional District seat in southeast Alabama, which Republicans have held since 1964.
There, fixed it.
