As Barack Obama gets ready for his trip to Iraq (made at the behest of John McCain), many are beginning to wonder if his "unconditional and immediate withdraw" will suddenly morph into something more moderate in his attempt to move toward the middle. Kavon Nikrad at Race42008.com sites two seperate reports that suggest that is exactly what he plans to do: Observers from the Weekly Standards Bill Kristol to George Packer, the New Yorker writer and author of The Assassins Gate can already see it coming:
Said Kristol yesterday on Fox News Sunday:
The next big flip for Obama, and this will make Brit even more astonished, will be on Iraq. Hes going to go to Iraq, meet with General Petraeus, decide the surge is working and walk back from his immediate unconditioned withdrawal. And suddenly, its going to be, Well, were going to be very careful, gradual. Honorable withdrawal, Obama said the other day an honorable conclusion to the Iraq war.
And Packer in this weeks New Yorker:
Obama, whatever the idealistic yearnings of his admirers, has turned out to be a cold-eyed, shrewd politician. The same pragmatism that prompted him last month to forgo public financing of his campaign will surely lead him, if he becomes President, to recalibrate his stance on Iraq. He doubtless realizes that his original plan, if implemented now, could revive the badly wounded Al Qaeda in Iraq, reënergize the Sunni insurgency, embolden Moqtada al-Sadr to recoup his militias recent losses to the Iraqi Army, and return the central government to a state of collapse. The question is whether Obama will publicly change course before November. So far, he has offered nothing more concrete than this: We must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in...

You know when you don’t stand up for something, you will fall for anything. In Obama’s case , he stands for nothing, and he will fip-flop, and flounder
Obama has nothing to lose by moving fully to the center. The drooling left wing moonbats are too doped up to not vote for their Messiah.
The only thing that may be a tad bit embarrassing is if Obama moves to the right past McCain. Which may not be that hard to do.
Flip flop again? Back to where he was in 2004 when he told the Chicago papers that his position was the same as President Bush’s and that once we were in, we were committed to staying until a stable Iraqi armed force capable of self-defense existed?
If he does that, then he’ll lose more support from his core and he’ll also lose funding. He has locked himself into the hard left so much that he’ll be hard pressed to move to the center. Also, such a move will prove correct all the criticism of him as being nothing more than a cynical, slimy politician.

He flips on the war now, he losses.

My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore
Friends,
I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.
So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

Also from MichaelMoore.com...
The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not "insurgents" or "terrorists" or "The Enemy." They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow -- and they will win. Get it, Mr. Bush?
[actual quote from Michael Moore (2004). It still appears on his website]

This one has been up for years, although I doubt if it's actually Michael Moore saying it...
The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

From NewsBusters.org:
BARACK OBAMA CLIP #1, DATED MAY 18: Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us.
OBAMA CLIP #2, DATED MAY 18: Iran, they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. I mean, if Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance.
OBAMA CLIP #3, DATED MAY 20: Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the regions and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel's existence. It denies the Holocaust.

Michael Moore to Wesley Clark: Run!
A Citizen's Appeal to a General in a Time of War (at Home)
Dear General Wesley Clark,
I've been meaning to write to you for some time. Two days after the Oscars, when I felt very alone and somewhat frightened by the level of hatred toward me for daring to suggest that we were being led into war for "fictitious reasons," one person stuck his neck out and came to my defense on national television.
And that person was you.

"People have been lied to. And many can see it. Invasion, occupation, police spying, round-ups, even torture camps--plus far-reaching changes in law, treaty and doctrine --they have all come wrapped in deceit. The President lies. His whole clique lies."
I hope I can say this in a way that makes sense. In some ways, if Obama is elected (and I surely hope he is NOT elected), I would almost rather him be more like Bill Clinton in this sense....it might mean he isn’t a true believer in anything. While that is not a good trait in a person, it does mean that if the GOP gets their act together eventually, they might be able to redo 1994 in 2010 or at least pull him toward the center to limit the damage.
If he really wants to implement the socialist agenda, he is likely to have a Dem congress to work with, and might get some of it through. So, from that POV, I would rather him be a fraud wishy wasky only cares about power kind of guy, that a true believer in socialism.
I don’t know if that makes sense or not, but hopefully we won’t find out about Obama as President and it won’t matter.
But if he wins, the GOP will have to rebuild from the ground up, and one can only hope they will oppose the socialist agenda. I have my doubts if they will. The Supreme Court nomination process could be the first test, along with tax policy.
And of course, like Wesley Clark said - we should look for a chief executive with judgement.
yep, bad ol’ Weasley. He is still at it. What a bum.
