My desktop background at work features a beautiful night shot of the Texas Capitol. I chose it because it's something non-partisan that conveys my interests. I try to keep my political side out of the office as it isn't really work appropriate.
The other day I was approached by a girl I work with who commented on my photo. She is an adamant Hillary supporter and life-long democrat. She looked at me and said "Your hispanic and Republican? Are you sure your not just a closet democrat?" My response was: "I've been a Republican for 22 years and nine-months. Are you sure you're not a closet Republican?"
She later asked me about the John Cornyn v. Rick Noriega race. We both agreed that Noriega has little to no chance. I made a comparission to the Bonilla v. Rodriguez race in 2006. She asked: "We're you a Bonilla supporter??" I replied: "He wasn't in my Congressional district, I met him a few times and worked with him...he's a nice guy."
"But he's a wetback" she responded. This young woman is hispanic, with family in Mexico, and a common Mexican last name.
"So am I" I answered her, in complete shock. "I'm fairly certain we all crossed the river at one point in time to get here so by your standards I guess we all are" I stated. She went on to explain that I (me) wasn't a wetback because although I was born in Mexico I was educated here.
Now, I've been discussing the immigration issue with a few other bloggers on a couple different blogs and I've been told that I need to "open my eyes" to all the "racism" and "hatred" that occurs in the south against "our people".
Here is my response so I can make this clear...

Luv it!
Good piece.
TY! I speak the truth, regardless of what liberals WANT to hear.
¡Que beuno!
beuno = bueno.
sheesh
LoL Points for intent!!! TY.
Showing a photo of amnesty loving McCain on the RUF website while stating in your article of opposing amnesty could illustrate better the disconnect prevalent in the GOP.
There are a plethora of things I do not like about McCain...that is one of the main issues...Unfortunately I do not control what picutres do or do not go up on the site..the only picture I can control is my own ha that’s why its not UP!
I think McCain will have to answer to Republicans in a BIG way with regards to his amnesty bill...we shall see.
Muchas gracias! :-)
No tengo muchas opprtunidades para practicar el mecanografiar en español.
My Spanish instructors would smack me if they read that.
The fact that they are here illegally is only a small part of the cause of that “racism”. It is the costs associated with illegals (hospitals - schools - gas usage - etc.), the fact that they do not want to integrate, do not want to learn english and basically want to take southern lands and repatriate them to Mexico. Why I do not know, because if the southern states were repatriated to Mexico then they would be in the same boat they were in, south of the border.
opprtunidades = opportunidades
Gads, I need another cup of coffee...
Stop while you are ahead, gringo. LOL.
My grandparents crossed an ocean ;-)
Hey, that Guero, to you. :-)
Props to you...your journey was longer and more dangerous. :)
BTW...Outstanding post!!
See and I thought everyone was coming here BECAUSE of the racism...
**shakes head**
Thank-you...although I live in a red state, I also live in a blue county that has several million Mexican Americans...and I get tired of having to defend myself because my view is antithical to theirs...in my neck of the woods I’m the hispanic Republican who things progressively in comparission to some of the outdated thinking of my fellow immigrants...
**thinks** progressively....sorry...
And that’s because I’ve already had 2 cups of coffee!!!
Mine shows the memorial atop Mt Suribachi on Iwo Jima. I took the picture when I was there in 2006 on a mission to transport some Navy troops on an exercise that summer. Semper Fi.
Wow.
My ire on this issue is reserved exclusively for the politicians north of the border who fail to uphold their responsibility to screen out those with ulterior motives, and the politicians south of the border who are simply trying to export crime and poverty.
“...the only time I’ve ever experienced racism in my life is at the hands of fellow hispanics...”
This is true for me as well. My mother is hispanic from New Mexico. I am and speak Spanish, but look more Italian because of my father. As a result of this, I get to hear lots of comments in Spanish made by my fellow Hispanics when they think you can’t understand.
I truly hate to say this, but in my experience Mexican immigrants can be some of the vilest racists out there.
"Wet-ankles" may be more accurate judging from the portions of the Rio Grande that I've seen.
Wow...looks...weathered.
