Out of Iraq and Lower Gas Prices
Right Up Front ^ | 05/14/2008 | R Hargraves

I was going to title this post "Bend Over, America", but I didn't want to upset the gays.

So, by this time I'm sure most of us were expecting to be paying nearly $1 a gallon again for gas and the last of our troops would be coming in from Iraq. Well, at least that's what we were promised by the new Democrat majority in Congress. Instead, their planned retreat from Iraq has (thankfully) failed numerous times and since taking control of Congress, gas prices have risen more than $.50 a gallon. Is anyone allowed to say these things in the media? It doesn't look like it judging from the most recent coverage. Congress's approval ratings continue to dip to the lowest in its history, making it even more despised than President Bush.

But you wouldn't know that judging from the last three special Congressional elections, in which Democrats have snatched previously long-time Republican seats from the GOP's grasp. So what's the deal? Could it be that the American people simply aren't paying attention? Or, are they paying attention to the wrong news? After months of being told the economy was in a recession, we found out the economy actually grew in the first quarter of 2008. And since they couldn't lie about that anymore, the media began to whine that in April the Dow Jones had dipped to its lowest levels since...last April!! Ahhh!!

I think the message here is that for far too long, the national GOP has treated all races as being local, whereas the Democrats have been pushing a national agenda.

If it wasn’t for the alternative, the GOP should be destroyed. Until such time that a viable alternative is available we are screwed.

I partially agree. I think Republicans have focused on local races, but the democrats have always had the upper hand in framing the issue and drawing on public empathy for support. The issue is both the agenda the democrats are imposing on us and the medias portrayls of what we “should” know rather than what is actually going on. They constantly harp on Murdoch and Fox for “Fair and Balanced” yet look at them...and every other form of media that is manufactured by the liberal agenda. And the fact that the majority of Americans rely on what they watch on The Daily Show or whatever comes from Curics mouth to be fact rather than finding out whats actually going on doesn’t help.

I get press releases from both sides; while the liberals scattergun their issues constantly, they are at least firing, whereas most of the conservative releases are few and far between. Writers need to write every day for their papers, or every hour for their news channels - if you're not trying to put your agenda out front, then it will get run over in the sheer volume emanating from the liberals.
