Sunday night roundtable: The Fox News/GOP debate

9:35pm Eastern. Wow. Interesting. Frank Luntz’s focus group was just asked about Romney. Only a few raised their hands to say they supported him before the debate. Almost all raised their hands to say they were supporting him afterward. Look:

1romney2.jpg

Loud agreement among focus group members that Huckabee came across as slick and evasive. I’m telling ya: Shuckabee. The New Hampshirites also agreed that while Fred was good on policy, he didn’t set them on fire. “I just want to shake and wake him up,” one guy said. That’s a regular citizen saying that, ok? Not the Evil Conspiratorial Media.

Last observation: McCain was wearing fangs for the ABC News debate. He left them on the nightstand for tonight’s debate. Must have been difficult not to snarl, though.

9:26pm Eastern. Wallace asks McCain the age question. Wallace: Would you pledge for running for only four years? McCain: No. I’ve got the vigor. It’s exhilirating. I’m excited. I’m older than dirt, more scars than Frankenstein.

Huckabee: I’ve met McCain’s mother. She’s got more vigor. (Crosstalk with McCain.) Wallace breaks up the lovefest.

Told you we wouldn’t get through this without Huck slobbering on McCain.

Bleeeech.

Candidates now giving closing statements. Recycling their talking points. Yawn. Maybe I shoulda had that Red Bull after all. McCain’s last–and I swear he sounds sick and tired of hearing himself. He heaved a big sigh as he launched into his stump mini-speech. SIIIIIGGHHHH. Weird.

Hot Air has vid of some of the livelier moments up here.

I thought it was a one sided debate with Fox showing bias for Romney and McCaniac with The Huckster running a close third.

I was surprised that Rudy and Fred even got a question as they certainly did not get much camera time.

One thing I do know for sure and that is any of the Republican candidates is better than the best the Democrats have to offer by a country mile.

Some focus group nutjob said that Thompson was insincere, and that he didn't focus on health care, etc. Hell, he was hardly asked any questions.

The debate tonight was very boring. Last night's debate on ABC was much better.

As for the focus group, I don't know how in the world a group of people has been on the fence the whole time, totally undecided as to who they will vote for, then all of a sudden have some epiphany and all raise their hands for Mitt Romney.

The NH citizenry are as stupid as ever. They now openly admit that they agree on policy with the man, but they wish he were EXCITING.

If you idiots ruin our chance to vote for this fine man for president, then I am so glad that this is the last primary where you get to make such an impact. A bunch of media-flattered dolts who behave like children, wanting a "star" over someone who is going to lead according to your own values.

So much for the myth of the minimal-government New Hampshire voter who only wants Washington to get off his back.

Now we want to know what government is going to "give" us.

I am a Hunter / Thompson supporter but have listened to all the candidates closely the last few days.

Hanity interviewed Ron Paul and even he sounded better than the best Democrat candidate.

I am still upset with McClain and I don’t know why Rudy has gone into a shell.

I listened to Mitt Saturday and Sunday nights and he sounds good but so has many others with blood of bluish color.

I like some of the ideas of the Huckster but as an evangelical I don’t always trust all Evangelical preachers as did the Jonestown 900.

So that leaves me with lots of things to think about come November 8.

One of those things is how many times can I pull the lever for the Republican candidate no matter who he is.

In a vacuum I'd agree with that. But you have to look at the unintended consequences of electing a liberal Republican as President (Huck, Rudy, McManiac...possibly Romney but it's hard to tell with so many flip flops).

If they get elected who will stand up for the Conservatives in the party? Look what happened when Bush went liberal. Who stood up for us? If a socialist Rat wins then it will steel our party and we will win congress (like Clintoon in 94). Our policies matter and putting in a liberal Republican is just as bad if not worse than putting in a Rat. With a Rat at the helm at least the US will get to see how stupid they are.

If the focus group accurately represents a larger sample then Mitt should easily pick up the 5 points needed to beat Mclame.

At least with a Republican candidate who is somewhat liberal you have ability to sway their decisions.

A good example is the stopping of the McCaniac/Grahamnesty/Kennedy/Bush Shamnesty bill.

Had not the base stood tall, firm and patriotic by saying noway Jose, then probably this month or next we would be swearing in some 45 million new citizens most of whom would still hold dear their allegiance to the Mexican flag.

With any of the Rat candidates you have no say (NADA)as to how the Democrats will prostitute and devalue this beautiful country called America.

Remember, Democrats for the most part think anyone who declares to be a conservative is an ignorant racists back woods rube.

I think after the Eye Opening liberalization of Bush we the Conservative Base will at least know that the candidate going into office may be less than desired and has tendencies of liberalism.

With a Republican we can work to stop a total sell out but with a rat POTUS it would only be wishful thinking.

Why not start working now to elect staunch conservatives instead of waiting for a Rat leader to give you an incentive.

I bought into Jimmuh Carter being stopped by my conservative senators and I will hopefully never again be so stupid as to trust the system to save our country or our individual butts.

Were still paying for all those who said we could elect conservatives to counter Carter and his slow destruction of America.

Were at war now with the Jihadists because Carter and Hollywood showed them that America will cut and run.

Everyone who votes needs to have a Jimmuh Goobers Carter mental picture of what a Hillary Clinton or a Barracks Osama Obama could do to this country.

Come November I will pull the voting booth lever as many times as possible for the Republican candidate even if that candidate is Odie the dog.

Just the lowly opinion of a red state wannabe.

Ok, what about no child left behind? Campaign Finance Reform? Those are liberal programs passed by a Republican President and Republican congress.

All the more reason for doing a better job of vetting Republican candidates.

Lets work to get Fred elected.

Rush is going off on this very question right now, go Rush.

I heard a sound bite from a Romney interview this morning on Immigration....and I liked what I heard...the illegals need to get in line and any form of amnesty will just attract more illegals....that is very good news to me....

He is also good on growing the Military...

Excellent observation.

Please excuse me while I go on a mini rant.

I watched all three debates this weekend.

I was upset by the way Fred Thompson was ignored.

Rush by the way just gave a quasi endorsement to Fred Thompson.

With that said, I felt that Romney acquitted himself very well in the debates.

Listening to Rush and the stupidity of some of the callers who support various candidates is beyond the pale.

I am an avowed Born Again Christian but for the life of me I do not understand how some who claim to be a Christian can make some really idiotic statements.

Some wrap themselves in an aura of being sista this and sista that and holy of holies but then be so narrowed minded in their thinking and decision making that in the final analysis hurts Gods chosen country, America.

With that said I do not believe God would want me to help elect a candidate that despises his people and their beliefs.

How electing an avowed abortionist, anti-Amermerican military, anti-marriage candidate can help America is beyond my meager mind to comprehend.

So I unashamedly support Fred Thompson the one true conservative in the race.

I guarantee all you so-called Christians that Fred will do more good for our cause than a defeated Hucklebuck.

I believe your assessment is right on. Actually I am not a bit happy with any of the ones running at the top. The only two I would vote for with any enthusiasm are Fred and Duncan. And they are most likely to drop out of the race before the finish line.
