In a discussion with David Ben-Gurion in Abba Eban’s autobiography, they considered Albert Einstein should be the first president of Israel because the country would be founded on the principles of scientific humanism. I don’t think the religious party has ever been needed to form a ruling coalition.
Agudat Israel/Degel HaTorah/UTJ have been a part of most Israel government coalitions, and not because the ruling socialists wanted to be nice to them.
