We helped that along when we decided to:

Bomb the Serbs because we want to carve out an artificial state for Muslims in Europe. It made sense at the time!

Those who continue to support this war couldn’t care less that it’s a lost cause for Ukraine or for the lives that are ruined and lost. They should be ashamed.

In June 1982, during the Iran-Iraq War, President Ronald Reagan signed a National Security Decision Directive which determined: "The United States could not afford to allow Iraq to lose the war to Iran." I don't recall anyone serious complaining about fighting to the last Iraqi. In fact Henry Kissinger said at the time, "It's a pity they both can't lose."
