Postal unions run the Post Office
Postal Unions are Big Labor
Nope, here in NW GA I’m getting stuff pretty fast. Just bought a book on ebay, shipped Media Mail, and it got here today, 3 days from Illinois. Given Media Mail is one of the ‘economy’ shipping methods, that was pretty good. USPS, UPS, Fedex doing good for me.
It takes well over a week to get the US Post Office to deliver anything. I don’t even use them for cards anymore.
This is what I have noticed recently. Several of my packages—nothing that would raise flags at all—have ping-ponged around and actually go missing in tracking to suddenly pop-up a day later. I see this as not the normal USPS/UPS behavior, but odd instead.
Exactly! This is what I see all the time recently.
We have that SAME issue.
We’ve even given specific instructions, on their (delivery companie) websites ... AND ... even had a yard sign made, installed right where they pitch the packages ... to please take them up to house, when gate is OPEN.
🙃
Laziness? Illiterate?
🤷♀️
Combine these delays with flat out theft.
Our bank said check theft (from bills, etc) began w/the curbside mailboxes...but, has now progressed to items even LEFT WITH THE P.O. !!
😡
On an unrelated note, does anyone remember when their mailman was a white male, presentable in appearance, wearing a uniform that was actually a uniform, generally friendly, and at least somewhat conscientious of doing a good job? Where I live I haven’t seen one of those in a very long time.
>> Increased theft risk as we don’t even know something is left for us.
I’m rural too, and we leave our gate shut most of the time. Even when it’s open, though, they just dump stuff by the gate. This is true even if “signature required”.
One thing you CAN do is sign up with FedEx and UPS and get text messages when something is shipped to your address. I find that very helpful — I know what day it’s supposed to arrive, and I get a text within a few minutes of them dropping it at the gate.

Yep. And UPS/FedEx drivers were clean-cut, friendly, DROVE ACTUAL FEDEX/UPS TRUCKS AND NOT RYDER/HERTZ/ETC TEMPORARY VEHICLES, and were known for acting as “eyes and ears” to help keep neighborhoods secure.
Those days are behind us, FRiend.
I’ve been the recipient of a lot of that stuff. Including a cheap student violin, drinking glasses, sex toys, hair pieces, deodorizing powder, and some other stuff I forget. This went on for several weeks and stopped abruptly.. I stopped calling Amazon because every time I do they just say OK forget about it. Just keep it. we have no way of telling what got shipped to your house who ordered it And they won’t take it back. I was tempted to put in a big garbage bag and just go drop it off at one of the distribution centers, but donated it instead.
I’m waiting for a “delayed” Amazon via USPS order. It’s a couple of little computer connecty things, probably come in a small padded envelope.
In the past I’ve had everything from books to a camera lens vanish and have to be re-ordered.
I always try to avoid USPS whenever possible for package delivery. I generally have problems with them. Fighting with them right now over a missing package in fact. UPS is only marginally better. FedEx, at least lately, is the better of the three.
“I’m waiting for a “delayed” Amazon via USPS order.”
I ordered a couple power connectors recently and BOTH ping-ponged around and were delayed by several days.
“Our bank said check theft (from bills, etc) began w/the curbside mailboxes...but, has now progressed to items even LEFT WITH THE P.O. !!”
That’s bad to hear. I still prefer writing checks for some of my bills. I knew there was theft from mailboxes, but didn’t realize theft within the post office had increased.
“issues with drivers just dumping packages at the road”
I live in the suburbs, not the country, and had a mailman leave a package next to my mailbox out at the curb a couple of months ago instead of walking 20ft more. I called USPS to report it. The woman I spoke to was very surprised and promised she would report the driver. Haven’t had any problems since, but I think he was just a temporary vacation fill-in worker. My regular guy is fine at his job, but not friendly at all.
Well, that explains the weird 'tracking course' that is displayed for a package that shipped a week ago but has
been routed through 3 'receiving facilities.'
I got the same notice from my bank. And I got a notice from the ranch I order my beef from that they wouldn't be shipping from now until a week after Thanksgiving because shipments would probably be very delayed and the meat would go bad. It's not just customers being affected by lousy shipping service, it's small companies.
I just checked the status of the order.
Yesterday it made it to a “carrier facility” actually in my town.
Today found it at a “distribution center” two counties away.
