How Much Do EV Batteries Cost?

Depends where they are parked when the catch on fire.

It’s good to know how long they last too.

The federal requirement for an EV battery warranty is 8 years or 100K miles. A few states require better warranties and some companies offer better warranties. Most companies will replace the battery if the battery capacity falls below 70%. The general rule of thumb is the battery will lose 2% of capacity per year. It really depends on how the car is charged and driven.

Some EV owners are taken by surprise when they discover the cost of replacing their batteries.

Translated: Dumbasses.

The article is utter propaganda addressing merely one aspect of EV ownership for total lifetime costs, ignoring wholesale all the other negatives for EVs.

“— and many EV buyers end up going back to gas”

Well, duhh. With EVs everywhere, one is no longer able to rub their new EV in the noses of their ‘friends’, so why the hell buy another one?

The price of the Mustang battery pack is about what it would cost if I had a mechanic put a new crate engine in my 02 f350 superduty. It would be about half that if I did it myself one weekend. The revenue that truck has generated is counted in the millions.

Do you have a gas engine in your truck?
I last had a Ford in 1999. Switched to dodge Cummins.
Anyway, I checked online and a power stroke engine was about 10,000.00.
I would think it would be double the mustang battery cost if done by a shop.

Let alone it renders them a use it up and throw away product. Because of depreciation alone there will be zero trade in value when those batteries are dead. In fact, it will cost you to have it towed out of your yard to the wrecking yard.

EVs are all about driving up the costs of personal transportation, so the masses cannot afford it.

Notice your auto insurance rates lately?

“can you buy refurbished batteries?”

have you ever bought a “refurbished” battery in your entire life for ANYTHING?

Those “exotic” engines like the Cummins power stroke cost a lot more. The 5.6 ICE in my truck is barely 3 grand for a long block last I looked.
