It was a damned scourge (I say that advisedly). Fairer-skinned groups such as the Celts were often blinded as well as disfigured. There was a whole class of Irish bards (including the great O'Carolan and Anton O'Raftery) who earned their living by harping and reciting after being blinded by the smallpox. I'm Irish-Scottish-Welsh-English so at higher risk!
I think what's lacking in this discussion is consideration of a middle ground- the sorriest byproduct of the whole COVID shot debacle is a rejection of ALL vaccines - which is as harmful as unthinkingly taking every shot offered.
My parents had friends in Haiti in the Papa Doc days. Before we visited, we were all vaccinated for *EVERYTHING* including being revaccinated for smallpox because some suspected cases had been reported. Typhoid, yellow fever, malaria prophylaxis . . . you name it! No particular ill effects, even fifty years on - just matching silvery scars on each bicep.
Younger people do not remember the horrors of pre-vaccination days. I knew people in heavy steel braces and iron lungs . . . took the polio vaccine happily.
Not a fan of most of the novel shots or some of the less-likely-to-contract vaccines. Long discussion over the COVID shot with my internist, who is the best diagnostician I know and the protege of the best internist ever to serve at our big local hospital. We concluded that because I am nearly 70, the benefits outweighed the risks. But I'm not taking any boosters! (I probably already had it in the fall of 2019 anyhow.)
Thanks for sharing your perspective.
We will disagree, but that’s OK.
My bride and I had Covid before anyone called it Covid.
I have a number of doctors.
The two most trusted told me to avoid it
They also predicted exactly how the vaxx would unfold, including continued autoimmune disease.
So since we had the real deal, and it was 2.5 days of sniffles… we decided against it. Never worried or masked, etc. we went “full-Amish”
I do wish you well.
