Andrew McCarthy, a former Federal prosecutor pointed out that for the purpose of the bribery statute a payment to a family member is a payment to the principal, and he cited cases where convictions were obtained. Taking a bribe, regardless of whether or not an official performs a favor or official act in return is a crime. Boasting about having the Ukrainian prosecutor fired would seem to me to be strong evidence of actually abusing his office after receiving an “emolument”.

Our media is a joke.
