You might have one or two of them in the department. Departments try and weed them out from the start but are overruled by their political bosses, the result a bad hire where something like this is going to happen. Some will weed themselves out by stunts like this. Some have political pull and get away with thug behavior even though their fellow officers may go on record about their behavior. It depends on the nature of the department and it’s leadership and political leadership. This guy had no excuse for what he did.
That would help but on a given day, when that final straw is thrown on the camel's back - the camel will misbehave. This may have been the last straw for the cop.

Exactly. They are not judge, jury, and executioner. No matter what color the perp is or what his name happens to be.
Absolutely! It is a miracle that the young fellow didn’t have serious injuries. It looks like it could have resulted in murder. Then the tough guy cop would really be sorry.
The perp may have said some poorly timed, vulgar wisecrack:
“Yo Mama was ‘Lovin it!’.

Around here if it is a black detainee they give cops like that medals...

As a retired correctional officer I can tell you that there are individuals who are masters at provoking a violent response. In many cases it’s to set up a hefty payday.
You can see him mouthing off in the vid. But the cop was definitely in the wrong and assaulted him. It was a straight up sucker punch.
Yea, but he’s Hispanic while beating on a black youth. That officially makes him “white.”

He SHOULD have restrained himself. With that said, I couldn’t be a policeman for a minute. The only way to handle punks is the beat the bleep out of them before, during and after arrest. Better they were aborted.
The jackboots are civilians too, no matter how much they pretend and play “tacticool” wannabe dress up games.

Hispanic males, cops or not don’t play that game.
Mouth off to them and they don’t care who you are.
Worked with dozens of them over the years. Mouth off to them and they’ll hurt you.
