I remember in the 1980s Sarah Brady saying Florida was ripe for more gun control because of the NY Jews moving into that state. That was over 30 years ago and Florida has not fallen to the gun control radicals....yet!
The article also says this. He will be living mostly in Florida and summering in the Hamptons, most likely. He will save on taxes and still get the best New York State has to offer.

... prolly had an accountant tally up all the money that he has lost to NY(C) taxes when compared to FL. When you are winding your career down and you realize that your life-style and your bank account don’t jibe, it is sobering.
I see Florida becoming California if we get a few things wrong down here.

I prefer Mr. Joel’s bright/airy/more homelike style to Mr. Jordan’s rather institutional style. The views at the Joel property are much more appealing, as well. However, both are simply too large and wasteful of land and resources, but people are free to squander their money. For the price of these houses, one could have a nice-sized one in every state, complete with a housekeeper and a handy-man.
Oh the state run by a man who “is not a winner”? Like Trump did.
Need to remove himself as a NY resident, therefore no taxes! Of course there will be a fight over that with the State of NY, but with zero assets in NY, then it becomes difficult for NY to collect anything they determine....
I’ve always thought he was a closet Trump supporter. They went way back from when celebrities still liked Trump.

Michael Jordan had real talent. Arguably the best basketball player ever. Billy Joel? Ok he had 1 or 2 good songs.
He was getting those lines from events in the news. It didn’t mean he supported liberal policies in handling it. It could have been a nod to Goetz.

Palm Beach is already South New York. He isn’t moving much.
Been there several times recently. Don’t really relish going there, but, you gotta do what ya gotta do.
We don’t have death taxes here in Florida, but the insurance rates could kill you. My auto insurance went up 50% this year, and my homeowners went up 60%, and that’s after a 35% increase last year.
