BigBob where we in Western Washington solar is not a reasonable option. And in summer I know of no one who have an AC system that can cool their house on battery power other than maybe fans and a swamp cooler.
“Solar and wind's capacity factor, the actual energy output vs the maximum energy output over time, is only 14% for worldwide solar and only 26% for worldwide wind. If this strikes you as low, that is true, as this number is weighted toward installations by Europeans, for example Germans, who are ahead in installations in some areas most unsuitable for solar. But there are other reasons solar and wind work even less than you think.”
“The map below shows that the sun shines a lot more in the United States than in Germany, as it lies further to the south. In both places, sunshine duration is significantly higher than hours of electricity generation at maximum capacity, because the sun's angle is seldom perfectly perpendicularly to a solar panel. While the German sun shines about 1,600 hours a year, generation at capacity is only 940 hours. Texas has 3,000 hours of sunshine a year, but generation at max capacity is only 1,600 hours a year.”

I am a typo machine today.
> California does woke things that eventually screws everyone. <
Yep. Many states follow CA’s lead in matters like this. I was going to say it’s the blind leading the blind. But the insane leading the insane is better.
I’m a home solar owner, not a RV owner. But looking at the many RV’s we see in state parks here in Alabama I can see not wanting to depend on a solar generator. So many people love to park their RV’s deep in the trees in our beautiful forestry state parks.
Probably is an improvement. Use width=640> at the very end of your img html. It works most of the time.
Finally got it...
We have solar panels on top of our camper van. They help keep the golf cart batteries from going dead when the van is sitting. The batteries last longer and put less of a load on the alternator when they are not allowed to discharge too far. When staying in the Southwest they allow you not to use the small generator as much. Even with a 2500 watt inverter the microwave doesn't work well if you are trying to dry your hair or use any other high wattage electric appliance. And we will need a much larger inverter and bigger batteries if we ever want to use the small electric air conditioner.
For future reference. I added width=640 after width=100% in the html and it did not work. I assume that the automatic html editing features on Free Republic took out the second width command because when I went back and looked it was gone. I had to take out the width=100% command and then add the width=640.
I’ve looked into a 3,000 watt pure sine wave inverter, 100amp boat battery and some solar generators for some back up power for various items- not cheap, close to $1000
Everything touched by leftists is destroyed. They are a pox on humanity and need to be removed from every society they set their demonic eyes on.
Believe it or not millions in California support these insane ideas, I have a theory that blue states are getting bluer and red states are getting redder as people separate them themselves in greater numbers.
That’s one of the reasons DeSantis won by 20% last year, Florida apparently has gotten more red as NY has gone even more insane, California is just at the epicenter of this political divorce
“Washington has been banning the extension of natural gas to new neighborhoods”
Is heat-pump heat as cost-effective as natural gas heat in your fairly mild climate (mountains excepted)?
War must be a two sided event
The war must be carried back to the legislature and they must be put on defense and made to take refuge where ever they can find it.
Won’t sell them in California? RVs have wheels, they can just drive on over to Nevada to get one.
"A new California Air Resources Board (CARB) rule [??? ...]"
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
As mentioned in related thread, CARB is not mentioned in California constitution legislative definition.
"Article IV, California ConstitutionSection 1
The legislative power of this State is vested in the California Legislature which consists of the Senate and Assembly [and non-popularly elected bureaucrats of the California Air Resources Board], the people reserving to themselves the powers of initiative and referendum."
Non-popularly elected bureaucrats running constitutionally undefined government agencies in both state and federal governments wrongly weaken the voting power of ordinary qualified citizen voters who are forced to obey such laws, in this example state career lawmakers wrongly not taking responsibility for the legislative powers that ordinary voters trusted them with imo.
"Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government [emphases added], and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence."
All patriots in the nation need to come to the rescue of Californians and people in other states likewise under the tyranny of renegade state governments by primarying all career federal lawmakers in 2024 elections since the feds are blatantly ignoring their responsibility to guarantee each state a republican form of government.
I have both. Other than air conditioning, my appliances are DC/Propane. I have both roof and portable solar (in case I'm parked under shade trees) as well as a pair of inverter-generators if there's not enough sun or I want to run the AC. I prefer the quiet, but even the generators are extremely low noise. You gotta love it when some idiot wants to run their open frame generator all night.
PICTURE IS TOO TINY!
😁
It depends largely on the efficiency of the "heat-pump", how much it costs, if there are subsidies and what electricity rates are vs gas. Up until recently the vast majority of people chose gas if it was available. On our side of the mountains whole house A/C is not necessary very much of the time. Most people choose to get a couple of room air conditioners when it is hot and leave it at that.
Most places in Eastern Washington are a different story. Natural gas is not as available, the price of electricity is less and it gets hot in the summer regularly.
If it was more cost effective to install heat pumps in Western Washington why would the government step in and ban new gas infrastructure? They already have been providing generous financial incentives to encourage the purchase of heat pumps vs a gas furnace. Their actions indicate to me that at the current time a gas furnace is considerably cheaper to purchase use and maintain. Washington is currently planning on jacking up the taxes on natural gas in the next few years to change the equation.
