That’s the biggest issue with GM. They’re patented. Monsanto(now Bayer) will sue you if you save seed. You have to buy it from them every year.
Now they’re starting to use CRISPR Cas9 gene editing to create better veggies but it’s the same, patented. When a handful of companies end up owning all food, that’s not a good thing.
The biggest threat caused by GM foods is that they can have harmful effects on the human body. It is believed that consumption of these genetically engineered foods can cause the development of diseases which are immune to antibiotics. Besides, as these foods are new inventions, not much is known about their long term effects on human beings. As the health effects are unknown, many people prefer to stay away from these foods. Manufacturers do not mention on the label that foods are developed by genetic manipulation because they think that this would affect their business, which is not a good practice. Many religious and cultural communities are against such foods because they see it as an unnatural way of producing foods. Many people are also not comfortable with the idea of transferring animal genes into plants and vice versa. Also, this cross-pollination method can cause damage to other organisms that thrive in the environment. Experts are also of the opinion that with the increase of such foods, developing countries would start depending more on industrial countries because it is likely that the food production would be controlled by them in the time to come.
There are controversies around GM food on several levels, including whether food produced with it is safe, whether it should be labelled and if so how, whether agricultural biotechnology and it is needed to address world hunger now or in the future, and more specifically with respect to intellectual property and market dynamics, environmental effects of GM crops and GM crops’ role in industrial agricultural more generally.

How did they become 'hybrid'?
It’s not realistic to think that multitudes of city folk will plant gardens, so the guvmint will make those with gardens share.
As a former grain and livestock farmer, it’s shocking to me to see how much food people throw away. And obesity is an major epidemic.
Could have been the wind.
It’s merely cross pollination, not genetic modification.
No. Dont confuse traditional breeding with gmo.
Quote:
Selective breeding is the mating process of two organisms of the same organism with desired characters. Hence, this method does not require special equipment and people. On the other hand, genetic engineering is the alteration of the genetic material of an organism by introducing foreign DNA into the genome.
I do NOT want my tomatoes scurrying under the refrigerator when I turn my kitchen light on.
The choice:
Very little “perfect” food or abundant “imperfect” food.
They’re both methods of genetically modifying food.
My point still stands.

The Mutant Monster plants have to come from somewhere, don't they?

“So they’re saying that GM crops are ‘safe and effective’”
ya, just like the jab....
Plant patents are good for twenty years, period. After that, farmers can do what they want. Those patents are why these companies bother to invest in the research that benefit all mankind.
Kind of the whole point of patents just as the framers intended.
That sounds so scientific.
Selective cross pollination one reliable method.
At some time in the future there will be basically two kinds of people. Those that eat GM foods and those that starve. — Captain Compassion
Just say no to GMO’s. I don’t even buy cat food with GMO ingredients.
BTW, really like your tag line
“It is believed” I don’t know since these crops have not been properly tested for many things and are out on the market that is being considered by the National Library of Medicine to include National Center for Biotechnology that to be considered GM there has to be a change in the DNA of the product, that that should raise a red flag.
The results of many studies with GM foods indicate that they may cause some common toxic effects such as hepatic, pancreatic, renal, or reproductive effects and may alter the hematological, biochemical, and immunologic parameters.
Other groups that have found problems are:
Harvard University
https://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2015/will-gmos-hurt-my-body/
Center for Food Safety
https://www.centerforfoodsafety.org/issues/311/ge-foods/ge-food-and-your-health
And there have been environmental impacts that have caused problems coming from a Canadian study. And these directly effect the growing needs of crops and the soils to include the use of more powerful pesticides and weed killers which will hammer crop rotation.

There are just as many groups supporting their use as warning of possible effects. But enough have warned that that red flag I mentioned should be examined better before these crops are put on the market just like any other invention would be. Otherwise, it can end up like Wiley Coyote.

No. Gmo introduces genes from completly unrelated species, traditional breeding does not. For example Bt corn has genes from a bacteria. Only can be done in a lab, not thru breeding. Its like putting pig dna in a human fetus. Cant do that thru breeding. The new gene created is thus nothing that can be created in nature.
