The insurance company might balk, though I think the finance companies don't want exclusions for negligence.

Progressive Insurance (yeah, I know) says:

As long as you have comprehensive coverage, you can file a claim if your car is stolen while left running. Comprehensive can still pay to replace your vehicle if it's stolen while your keys are inside it or if you left it running.

I think the finance companies want it that way, they have a lot of clout (lobbyists) and they don't want to get stuck for the insured's negligence. The coverage protects the lien holder.

Maseratis haven’t had stick shifts for years. A 2016 4-door Ghibli or Quattroporte certainly wouldn’t in any case.

We came across a new red Torino GT with the 429 Cobra Jet engine, doors unlocked and keys in it. We didn’t even crank it up, we just looked inside and then left.
