Nope, you can only charge one at the time, if you go with the faster option.

Not smart to park your EV in the garage no matter how immaculate it is.

The charging time is actually the hardest problem to solve with EV. You can make huge batteries, but you cannot charge them in reasonable time.
You do not realize, but pouring gas into tank is equivalent of about electrical 4MW power.
That’s equivalent of small power plant output!
Our, decent size house has 200A fuses on 240V. That’s only 48kW.
So if I shut down everything, I could theoretically deliver 100x less power in given time. My EV would then take 100x time to charge with equivalent energy that my gas car!
As far home installations, that’s about all one can get.
The best, fast charging stations deliver 380kW power, still 10x less than my gas hose! And that power is quite expensive!

Solar comes in all flavors. Charging is totally dependent on the cars interface. 240 volts with a dryer interface tends to be 50 amps max. So 12 kw an hour. If car is 250 kw, then 20 hours. So close to three days unless the sun shines at night where you are.

EV's aren't for everyone. For it's worth, here are the rates of charge for my EV when charging at home.

Level I charging:
120V/6A outlet: 6 miles for every hour charged.

Level II charging:
240V 5kW: 15 miles/hr (how I usually charge it).
240V 8kW: 24 miles/hr
240V 9kW: 27 miles/hr (how I charge it if I need it to go from empty to full in 8 hours)

Part of being married and needing 2 cars anyway means you can have both an EV and an ICE to have the best of both worlds.

Two hummers is enough, one EV for show and one gas powered for when he actually has to go somewhere.

My bad. That’s 250 mile range from about 75 kw battery in car.
So possible in a really sunny day with a 10 kw solar array.

A Florida Freeper said that they didn’t get any damage from the hurricane but plenty of debris in their yard including lots of solar panels.

“How well would electric Hummers have done in Iraq and Afghanistan?”

When I discovered in the Future Combat System’s contract that it was supposed to “transition” to electric I went to talk to our chief engineer. I asked what the plan was for this. He said, approximatly, “It’s a lie. Engineering never signed up for it, but management went ahead even though we said it couldn’t be done. But nobody is expecting this contract to last through to production. The whole thing is idiotic.”

“Not smart to park your EV in the garage no matter how immaculate it is. “

Easy solution to having your EV destroy your house: Don’t invite anyone over for several months - tell them you’re ‘remodeling’.

“Then you go 30 miles. Wonderful.”

Most people tow trailers less than 30 miles and most people live within 30 miles of work. So what’s the problem with this limited range?

Perhaps someone is trying to send him a MESSAGE - that’s it’s time to solar-up and stop being a Luddite.

I know one guy who bought two Hummers because he couldn’t decide which color he preferred. He was one of those folks who bought Bitcoin very early on.

“Will they remotely cut off your vehicle power, mid interstate driving?”

Nah... they’ll remotely lock the seat belt, doors, windows and cancel cell service while taking you to a “secure and safe” location. Can’t happen, Tesla is real world proof of concept.

And battery technology traditionally improves at a snail’s pace, at best. The EV future looks bleak.

$ days to charge on a regular outlet? I’m not too surprised. A “regular outlet” is a 15 Amp 120 V outlet. There is a reason electric stoves are powered by 50 Amp 240 V outlets. You want to boil that pot of water *today*.

“Electric cars are a complete and utter disaster that need to be propped up by government.”

When it comes to full EVs (not hybrids) I agree with your statement. The wall-outlet thing is a cheap shot though. Wall outlets were not designed for that kind of charging in the first place.

However, this does make one wonder what will be required to charge box trucks, semis, farm machinery, tanks, self-propelled weapons, those gigantic trucks used at mines, bulldozers, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
