Indeed when you start to bypass the Constitution the only path is communism 1984 wasn’t just a book it was a manual for some.
Xi thumps table
A convention of states has a very specific purpose with the agreed upon articles to be voted on in each State Capitols prior to the Convention... its not an open forum.
Keep hiding behind your Bible. Clutch those pearls and have a great afternoon.
BTW we have not had a Republic since the passage of the 17th Amendment... lol..
False comparison.
Yep. They have deformed and broken the Constitution to give too much power to the Federal government. The feds aren’t going to give that power back voluntarily. Article 5 exists exactly for a time like this. The states and people must reassert ourselves through this mechanism to get our country back.
I have read it.. worth the time to read it again.
The media is the third leg of the current dynamic with both parties and large donors/lobbyists being the others...
Yes, our morality changes over time... its how society evolves or devolves..
Having every State Capital involved: the state level reps and state senators along with the Governor was a massive check on the parties, donors... and would completely change the character of who is in the Senate.. the uniparty would not exist in its current format.. zero chance a complete dolt like biden would make it to DC.. Word salad Harris would be even allowed to work at the town recycling center. The likes of McStain, Graham and McConnell ever being in the Senate or Federal government would be reduced significantly.
Our Founding Father’s were not stupid.
I'm not talking about religion here, sport; I'm talking about human nature ... the basic human nature of most of those who would be involved in your delusion that our Constitution would be strengthened in today's America if only we would make "fundamental changes" to it (where have I heard that expression before? ... it rings a bell ...)
And you are dead wrong -- if not a bit churlish -- with your comment that I should "keep hiding behind [my] Bible" ... I don't own one to "hide behind". Such a stupid comment to make.
I suggest you read up on the process and understand why the Founding Father’s put it in place.. try learning something new... it only hurts a little.
Keep hiding behind whatever moralistic reasoning you may have to do nothing and watch the democracy we are now in devolve into a police state... mob rules.
As to human nature, again read up on how our Constitution was made... those men had a far better grasp on human nature and politics..
As to being the author of a stupid comment... I’ll take it means something to you.. shrug.. keep hiding then.. I’ll keep doing.
‘An Article V convention can modify the Constitution no more than any other amendment proposed, voted on by Congress & ratified by the states can.”
“All an article V convention does is bypass Congress. The states still have to ratify any amendment that comes out of an Article V convention.”
When it comes to changing the U.S. Constitution I am extremely cautious. It is currently the ONLY thing that preserves our liberty (at least until we lose the Supreme Court). I have NO confidence in the intelligence, fortitude, or guile of the Republican party to win more than they will lose in such a convention.
Perhaps next time; on a different topic, Article10 ...
The main thing i want done is the repeal of the 17th Amendment. It thoroughly damaged the republican structure of our government. Almost all other stupidity followed from that !
Not the amendments after the Bill of Rights, Glenn.
Is Glenn snorting Cheetos again?
“The main thing i want done is the repeal of the 17th Amendment. It thoroughly damaged the republican structure of our government. Almost all other stupidity followed from that !”
I have no problem with attempting to repeal the 17th. There have been numerous attempts that have narrowly failed. Let’s continue to try using the tried and true method and not the Con Con which opens up the potential for other changes.
First get your terminology right! An Article V convention IS NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION! It’s a Constitutional means to bypass Congress to get amendments proposed. IT IS IN THE CONSTITUTION!! It’s a means for the States to get around recalcitrant Congress in proposing amendments that’s all it is. If you think an Article V Convention of States is a danger to the Constitution has Congress shown to be any less so? The ERA amendment was one of the stupider and dangerous to the Constitution actions done by an amendment proposing Congress. We barely dodged that one! To say nothing of what the 17th & 16th amendments did to our governing structure, again proposed by Congress. Congress has not been the best guardian.
“First get your terminology right! An Article V convention IS NOT A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!”
Antonin Scalia called it a Constitutional Convention so that’s good enough for me. FYI, having to resort to complaining about commonly used terminology is a sure sign you’ve lost an argument.
No, it’s a sign I want to discuss things along precise we’ll defined lines. Blurring definitions is what people do when they either don’t know enough to argue or have lost the argument.
Don’t give a rats patoot what Scalia said.
Typo
we’ll = well
“No, it’s a sign I want to discuss things along precise we’ll defined lines. Blurring definitions is what people do when they either don’t know enough to argue or have lost the argument.”
Ok, just keep telling yourself that. :-)
What’s the agenda going to be? Nobody knows, do they?
That is in the articles each State Capitol votes on...
Then each State sends delegates to vote, up or down on the articles approved by the 2/3 majority of state capitols ..
