I think the movie was great, and important for America. It showed what homosexuality is. Not the loving, in touch with emotions, family oriented monogamous relationship between two men. It is a violent predatory perversion of the family structure where mental illness is king. I think the movie helped keep the sodomites in the closet a few more years. Thus giving our kids a few more years to be kids without being groomed…

“how many 50-year-old movies are still being discussed and debated??“

I’ve never heard any intelligent discussion about this movie. Only horror.

How many stupid corrupt politicians are still in powerful positions after 50 years of being destructive?

Biden for one

That doesnt make him good. Or classic. It just means that some bad decision making sticks around. Perpetuated by stupidity.

The Griner boys kept their word and drove their cars to Aintry too. The sheriff (James Dickey!) knew they were lying but he let them go. There was a range of folks up in the mountains.

The book was far better than the movie but I did like the movie as well. Many southerners don’t like it because they were mostly portrayed as backward hillbillies, I can understand that.

Deliverance explored some primal human subjects. Fear, survival, overcoming nature, overcoming evil that is out to get you.

There’s good and there’s bad. I was in Knox county in the 50’s when racial hatred was peaking. Was not a nice place to be.

That may be…..
….but in my little Southern burg folks treated ‘the immigration’ of schools……specifically those who came to our high school, with courtesy and acceptance.
Guess it depends on where you live.

We only had two…….and they were the nicest younguns
Fit right in with us other younguns

We didn’ t have the sense of it being shoved down our throats

We are discussing the movie right now, it might be debatable if I’m intelligent, I assume you are as well.

I never called the movie a classic, it’s not on my list of favorite movies, it does have some classic scenes, dueling banjos, you got a pretty mouth, squeal like a pig, etc...what makes them classic is a very large percentage of people know the scenes and what movie contained them.

It’s the same as, “I’m going to make him and offer he can’t refuse” and “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn”...and countless others.

If you don’t like the movie, fine, but many others enjoyed it and like to watch it every time they see listed somewhere.

I got thrown, another 30 days, in Facebook Jail for quoting the line “Boy Can you squeel like a pig?” to a dandy-lion on their web site.

I remember that part when Mr Survivalist suddenly becomes a burden to the others. Always reminded me of the frailty of MAN IN THE WILDERNESS.

In Corbin, Ky a shotgun was stuffed in my face and I was told, “We ain’t got no niggers here cause they all been lynched.” I was picketing in front of the Greyhound in support of the Freedom Riders.

Mr. Survivalist: “Who has the ability to survive?” during his discussion with Ed. He had a point, but he also learned he needed others to help him survive when he was injured. He could survive off the land better than the others, but he still needed them.

Not really. He was a poet who then also wrote a few liberal fantasy novels, an alcoholic who wrote far-out novels seeking the limelight. He did damage to the reputation of the South by making people outside the South think Southerners are bunch of retarded inbred homosexuals.

Ever notice that they realized they were back to Civilization when they found the wrecked and stripped car in the river?
