Was about 10...Decided to make my patriotic cake. Sectioned the cake mix...added red, white & blue food coloring.

Baked and it turned into a lovely shade of purple.

LOL!

I did something like that with a spinach souffle - I added the spinach in the blender to everything else, instead of folding into the finished egg mixture. Wound up with something perfect for St. Patrick’s day...but kinda strange looking.

Is that at your Veterans’ post, or did you make it?

I’ve just done the corned beef they sell at St. Patrick’s time, not a brisket

Famous Dave’s makes a spicy jalapeno cornbread mix in a box. Sometimes I opt for easy. :) It’s almost like a spicy dessert with a good slather of butter. My husband, son and I polished it off in less than 24 hours.

The only Lucile recipes I’ve found are the tomato sandwiches, and her oyster bisque, which Paula Deen put in one of her books.

My husband’s mother was born in England, and he grew up with cucumber sandwiches. Just thinly sliced cukes, butter, bread; but sometimes people use cream cheese instead of butter.
