After 16 hours underground, the driver and the children dug themselves out and escaped as the kidnappers were asleep.
Glad they were able to escape. I'd never heard about this before.

One of the other kidnappers was freed in 2015. The bus driver is deceased.

They weren’t buried alive..
The truck had been buried to use as a place to hide them.
It had ventilation, mattresses and food.
The bus driver and boys were able to escape using the mattresses to stand on in a stack and push the cover off and get out.
These guys were so dumb they hadn’t even been able to make their ransom demand before they escaped.

Yes, they sure would. I have (from new) a 1975 Colt Trooper MKIII .357 Mag, 6" barrel. It's a canon. I bought it day after I was robbed and shot, on 7/14/75, in West Palm Beach, as I and my fiance were leaving a legendary steak house, Tropical Acres. I was in South Miami hospital hospital trauma center overnight.
.32cal bullet missed all organs/nerves/arteries/veins/bones etc, and stopped inside pelvis, right at lower spine. Trauma doc said, "You're the luckies SOB I've ever seen in 20yrs of running trauma centers, all over the US".,
