Or a John Fogerty “The Old Man Down the Road” ripping off “Run Through the Jungle” by ... John Fogerty.
Listen. As long as Yoko Ono doesn’t release a cover of the song, I can live with this earth-shattering controversy. ;)
Nick Cave! YES! :)
no I do not see that they are that similar. They are from a similar genre.
Both lovely songs.
Been listening to a lot of SERENADE RADIO.
How about:
“School days, school days good old golden rule days”
and
Phantom of the Opera
“Modern rap” is the musical equivalent of toxic waste.
I do. You can send me the royalty checks.
Essentially anything with 3 syllables.
“Soft boiled egg”
“Sausage links”
“Marmalade”
Etc.....
CC
“Well all Chuck’s children are out there playing his licks
Get into your kicks
Come back baby
Rock ‘n Roll never forgets”
Or “Long Cool Woman (in a black dress)”
By The Hollies
and “Green River” by CCR
Enough so that half the royalties from the song go to John Fogerty. He sued.

I have listened to both songs many times and never saw “Yesterday” as a ripoff. Certain phrases are constantly used and re-used in songs, and the melodies and rhythms of these two songs are not similar. Nothing to see here.
I’m not hearing any similarity, either.
Pretty song, very nicely done snd the similarity is clear; it uses the same twelve-tone scale as “Yesterday”. On that basis of comparisons “Bohemian Rhapsody” was lifted from “Boy Names Sue” and “Greensleeves”
I didn’t say it was “good”...it should have died after 1 year of popularity.... it’s just syncopated samples...but our brainwashed kids still go for it. Talk about imitative, vicarious living...
What a nice break from vaccines and Ukraine. Made me think of Crimson and Clover as I type this. LMAO!
Over and over.
Greensleeves (c.1580) has probably been in public domain for a long time.
Great thread. Thanks.
There’s a record store near where I live and the owner says a lot of musicians stop in and buy old records when they tour in the area. His assumption is that they’re looking for styles to mimic.
