It seems to me that a key difference is that those on the Right understand extensive addictive drug use is corrosive, unhealthy, and destructive behavior, and realize it should be discouraged or inhibited in some way.
Those on the Left believe that extensive addictive drug use with its corresponding corrosive, unhealthy, and destructive behavior should be celebrated, spread to everyone regardless of age or sex, not only with no inhibition or discouragement whatsoever, but with the full support and aid of government and taxpayers.
