That’s Capitalism for ya.
So what? This the essence of good business.
I don’t have a problem with this. Except ya know... Take the tag off for heaven sake!! The Antique store didn’t sell a brass bed, they sold an idea.
What’s the big deal? You can ask any selling price you want for anything. The free market will adjust the price for you.
Could be a ripoff - but a lot of people give away a fortune to Goodwill not knowing what they’ve given away something valuable...same with things they sell at yard sales.
Big deal...people donate really valuable stuff to Goodwill all the time without checking its value. Good for the people who spot valuable things, buy them cheap, and resell them high! Everybody is happy. The first guy got a charitable donation write off, Goodwill kept people employed and made a few bucks, and the last guy can make a lot of money.
So the owner of the thrift store finds a great deal on an item at another store, buys it and puts it in their own store. A buyer who wants it and is willing to pay the listed price buys it. Somebody else does not want to buy it. I see no issue here. It’s called the free market.
Ever watch Antiques Road Show? I found this 200K painting in a dumpster! Long live American entrepreneurs!
True.
Moral of the story: Go to Goodwill first before you go to the antique store.
Time is worth something. Resellers may go into three stores and buy one item. If it is worth $220.
I have found Goodwill stores are much more intelligent about their pricing. It is hard to get good deals anymore. I rarely shop there anymore.
Newsweek put the word “Caught” in the headline to poison the piece in your mind before you ever read it. There is a little evil there. They didn’t get “caught” doing anything.
EXACTLY
I bet people resell stuff ALL THE TIME that they buy at Goodwill, especially if new with tags still on for clothing.
Sign on the front of the store: We Buy Junk & We Antiques
Whats the problem here? All the time people donate stuff to Goodwill and they sell it for a few dollars and savvy buyers know the item’s true worth, buy it and then make a profit.

Then the TikToker flipped the same brass swan over while saying, “Well I bet it has a cool history or something, or like it was hand-made...Or they bought it from Goodwill for $8.99.” On the bottom of the swan is an $8.99 price tag with Goodwill’s name on it. The TikToker put the swan down, saying, “Nevermind.”

That video doesn’t sound staged at all.
There are many swan collectors you just need to know what is quality.
