Perhaps 20 years ago we had an ice storm in Seattle. We hunkered down in our basement with the power out but a wood stove to stay warm, lanterns, etc.

The elderly neighbor lady ended up staying with us and slept in the fold-out couch with my wife, and me and the kids on the floor. We had plenty of food for the 6 days without power.

Except I didn’t have ANY marshmallows!! I took my 4x4 truck to the store and bought ONLY marshmallows (to make a point). The check-out gal looked at me funny.

“I can’t believe that I was prepared for this but didn’t have any marshmallows!”

In 1991, I was stuck in an I-80 truck stop near LaPorte, IN for 12 hours while the lake effect snow piled up to about 20 inches. Truckers and I smoked all of our cigarettes and drank coffee and told stories about life. As I recall, it was the first time someone talked about GPS on a big rig. Nice memory.

The number of days one is snowed in a British pub has more to do with when the alcohol runs out or the ability to find the door after drinking heavily than it does with the actual weather conditions, I suspect.

Imagine the bar tabs these folks ran up!

"Global Warming" twenty-one/two years later.
"Within a few years winter snowfall will become a very rare and exciting event. Children just aren't going to know what snow is," --- Dr David Viner, senior research scientist, climatic research unit of University of East Anglia, quoted by The Independent 2000.
