When a little child asks me why is it raining I tell him it’s because God is crying. If he asks me why I tell him it’s probably because of something you did.
When we got the news in 3rd grade, some of the girls started crying.
They boys either said or did nothing...................
Second grade. I was pi$$ed that TV was screwed up for a week afterwards. I have this reflexive dislike of Democrats( even at that young age) so the event was of little concern to me outside missing my cartoons.
I believe the folks from the series “Gilligan’s Island” were filming the intro to the series in Honolulu the next day, and when you watch them steaming out of the port, there is a flag at half mast in the background.
I was in 6th period study hall. Had only been there a short time when the principal’s secretary walked in and announced it. We didn’t have an intercom or speaker system back then.

6th grade. Had a male teacher. Another teacher came in and whispered to him. He gave the annoucement. The 2 cut ups in the back of the room stood up. 1 pointed his finger and shot the other one, who fell to the floor. The teacher grabbed both and took them to the hall. Whipped them both, could hear them crying. The whole school went to the flag pole and lowered it to half mast.
In junior high school. Just finishing lunch getting ready for art class
Never forget. 1st grade (one of my oldest memories). 2 Room schoolhouse (really!) in Colonie NY (near Schenectady). Elderly teacher comes in an sits at her desk and cries. Someone else comes in and tell us we are going home.
Bus drops us off, and I recall walking up the hill to silence. Quiet. Recall it being a warm day for November. Get home, and a group around the TV watching with horror. Didn’t get it, but knew it was really bad.
Love or hate his politics, was the beginning of one of the darkest several years in our history. MLK, Bobby K, riots, etc. As bad as things are now, 60’s weren’t a cakewalk.
Hallway. Elementary school. Some older child told me that the Presdient had been shot and the VIce-Presdient was wounded.
In school got dismissed, I was 7

Sophomore year in high school taking a Geometry test. It was our first class after lunch.
Back then, the enemedia (including "Uncle Walter") never told the American people about JFK's serious medical problems and the JFK/RFK sex scandals that made Slick Willie look like a rank amateur.
After LBJ, the candidates of both parties (but especially the Demonicrats) selected their VP choices at least partially on the VP's ability to be "assassination insurance."
4th grade, home for lunch from school around the corner. Between 11:30 and noon AZ time.
Eating Cream Tuna and peas, my personal favorite in those days.
Suddenly the outside door to the kitchen FLEW open with a bang! It was my older sister rushing home from school to tell everyone the news. The TV was on but it had not made it on the air yet. She was out of breath and gasping:
“The president was shot, the president was shot!” She had heard it at the school over a radio.
I almost choked on my meal due to her banging in the door shouting like that.
My mother looked at her in disbelief and said: “Oh, what are you talking about?” At that exact moment Cronkite came on, audio only over the CBS special report screen announcing that shots had been fired in Dallas. I can remember it as if it was this morning. A lightning bolt out of a clear blue sky it was. Most stunning moment in my entire life so far.
2 days later, Sunday morning, I watched Oswald being led out and then shot on live TV. I couldn’t wrap my head around what I had just seen. I went and found my mom and I told her I think they shot Oswald. She looked at me like I had two heads and kind of shrugged me off. I went back to the TV for a few minutes, then went and found my mom again and said: “No mom, I think they really shot him.” This time her face went grey and she rushed over to the TV room. History.
Dad and I drove up to deer camp.
