"She should tell Whole Foods to call a food pantry for the throw-outs. They would be happy to pick it up and give it to needy families."

Some Trader Joes (for one) do give such to charities, but in some states do not protect such donators from law-suits, or those who pick it up are not consistent.

In 2012. NYC forbade city shelters from receiving donated food out of concern of too much sugar and or salt.

March 21, 2012 - PRLog -- New York City, as part of its new effort to insure that only nutritional foods are served in its shelters, has begun turning away food donations from restaurants, grocery stores and other sources, claiming that, since its can't assess the nutritional content of donated food, shelters should not be feeding the food to the homeless. - https://www.prlog.org/11830189-nyc-bans-food-gifts-to-shelters-to-prevent-fat-homeless.html

“Our society has become more interested in Ikea.”

Doesn’t matter a whit what society thinks. Personal treasures fill a familial spiritual need and are superior to Ikea.

Don’t fret. Be happy.

“What oven temperature?”

350* However, you have to watch it through the oven window. It can burn pretty fast. What I usually do is to wait for the glistening of the added water and butter to disappear.

Thanks.

Yeah, I’ve had stuff I’m trying to reheat burn on me, too.

It’s amazing sometimes how fast something can go from almost done to charred.

I agree, and I love looking at my beautiful furniture and collectibles. But my siblings and I are housing gorgeous rugs in our basement that won’t sell, Limoges China, valuable little collectible vases, with no place to put them. Antiques, collectibles are not what’s favored these days.

Food pantries accept food found in dumpsters?

Good Lord, are you that stupid? If she contacted Whole Foods, they could call local food banks who would gladly pick the food up. Evidently, some people can fill in the blanks:

If she contacted Whole Foods, they could call local food banks who would gladly pick the food up before Whole Foods throws it in the dumpster.

We did conventions too from time to time- sometimes there weren’t enough folks to get the convention up and running in short enough time, so they’d call on us in room service to help out- Yep- it’s very fast paced-

I know what you mean about grueling fast pace- our room service catered to the whole island which was about a mile around the parameter- but we did have vans- but the halls to get to the vans were super long- I can’t count how many dishes i smashed rushing to get back to the room service room to start prepping the next orders- thankfully they were smashed taking the dirty dishes back from the rooms- We of course wheeled the food for the rooms slower- although one fella dumped a whole cart full of food once- the table cloth caught in the wheels- Wasn’t pretty lol-

Room service was great- lots of tip money- but wow did we have to hustle for it- there were several floors to the main building- and when it came to rounding up the dirty dishes- it was quite the chore- I can’t even begin to imagine how many miles a day we ran- but yeah- it was a fun job-

Me and a friend just furnished a place off Facebook marketplace and Craigslist. Found a lady and her husband in an almost million dollar house that was getting rid of everything and moving out of state. Almost new leather sofas and love seats. A guest bedroom set that had never been slept in. She threw in end tables, console tables, lamps, etc. We made quite the haul!!!

Awesome, good for you.

My son also bought a Flexsteel 100% leather sofa for $300.
It was less than a year old. The lady still had the sales receipt from Jordans Furniture in MA fro $1699.

Nobody wants formal dining room furniture anymore. China cabinets are virtually worthless. I bought a solid oak china cabinet and sideboard server for $200. The lady was getting a divorce and moving to a condo. I already had a table and 6 chairs. It matched perfectly.

I don’t know if it was true, but the manager told us that our grocery chain used to donate it all to a homeless shelter and then they got sued by someone who claimed they got sick from expired produce.

I believe it. Our local Smith's grocery used to donate their day-old bakery goods to the Senior Center. One old biddy found a spot of mold on a pie, went to the store, and complained.

End of donations.
