Well in this case 153K miles is as good as a light-year. The galaxy is a big big place and lots of these floating around. Our government(s) can not even keep our infrastructure in good repair so I would not count on them being able to do anything if we detect an imminent collision. Morgan Freeman in Deep impact was only a movie.

The Chelyabinsk meteor was estimated to be only about one quarter the diameter of 2021 SG.
If this was 4 times the diameter of Chelyabinsk, which had the equivalent yield of a half megaton hydrogen bomb, then 2021 SG would (if I've done my sums correctly) have hit with about the force of a 8 megaton bomb.
500kT would essentially eliminate Washington DC.
8,000kT would reach out as far from the Capitol as half way to Boston.

More fear porn.
Large ateroids have been zipping past the planet, and sometimes impacting, since before human civilization began and yet we are still here after 120,000 years. This is just one more story to keep people on edge. In the event an asteroid is detected and determined to hit earth, there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it, so why worry?
Suggest everybody go back to their Sunday routine (church, yardwork, fishing, shopping, etc.).
