What is “wellness”?
What is “culture”?

add in plenty more if you prefer a warmer climate

warmer states tend to be better for the elderly to live better and live longer

harder winters are harder on older immune systems and bodies

Come on, man!

I went to the article and tried to study it. There are no definitions, or links that I found, to explain what “affordability” means and what an 8 (Alabama) means vs. 47 (Maryland) implies, nor what “culture” means, etc.

Poor poor “report.” Not helpful at all.

Ed-ji-muh-cate this poor southerner with the info, someone.

Ha! I am retired and live in Connecticut. It is a nice state if you are well-off. But the guys without money usually move away when they retire.

New York State (especially away from NYC) isn’t nearly as bad to retire in as opposed to actively working there. Wages are where they really ding you on taxes.

Yup, everyone in Alabama is really sick and we have no culture. Stay away!

Yup--I live in rural CT. Winter is not a problem when you don't have to commute. If the weather is bad retired folks just stay in...

With these sorts of rankings it all depends on the criteria used to come up with the rank order of states. Some criteria, such as wanting to be in a warm weather climate, may outrank others for individuals.

And to talk of a criterion such as crime, statewide crimes rankings are meaningless. There are many low crime towns within high crime states.

I wanted to move to a warmer climate when I retired—but at the end of the day there were other very personal factors that made it a no go....everyone’s situation is different—and state rankings are not that helpful.

If you live outside a city in a harsh winter area, you’re likely to get significantly more exercise than teenage city dwellers.
