After the first battle of Bull Run (or Manassas, if you prefer) the Confederates could have taken Washington DC. They deliberately chose not to do so, because they never had any interest in invading the US. I think had they known how things would have turned out, they probably would have sent their army into Washington and made Lincoln and the other members of the corruptocracy flee.
And they probably would have gained their independence. It likely couldn't have turned out any worse for them anyway.

If I accept your premise at face value you are basically telling me that the squishes of the GOPe are too stupid to emulate President Trump who manages to get his message out. What I draw from yiur argument is that the GOP leadership is either too stupid to breath or deliberately thwarting the wishes of the Republican Base.
Either way you look at it the GOPe squishes like Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, and Liz Cheney need to be retired.
