45 years after hearing Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir, I still have not seen it featured in the movies.
I’ve seen “been a long time since I rock & rolled” in a FReeping CADILLAC commercial. I’ve seen Immigrant’s Song used all over the place, like right here on FR as the Viking Kitties mascot song. And Stairway to Heaven is everywhere.
But the first song I figured would be adopted by the outside world has been ignored.
"Lori Lieberman (born November 15, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter who accompanies herself on guitar and piano. She first came to public attention in the early 1970s with a series of albums on Capitol Records, one of which featured the first recording of "Killing Me Softly with His Song". After a long gap, she resumed her recording career in the mid-1990s.[1] "
BTW, written about Don McClean but not by Lori.
So, what was the name of the Pilot?
I gethca. I would have though Kashmir would be in dozens of movies-—HOWEVER, remember the band has to sign off on it.
In 2010 I tried to get rights to “Voodoo Child” by Hendrix for “Rockin’ the Wall” & they wouldn’t give them to me.
Try Fast Times at Ridgemont high. When asked for help to set the mood on a date, Rat is told to play side one of Led Zep IV. Next scene, Kashmir from Physical Graffiti is on e car radio. Classic blooper, and a bit of a surprise from a Cameron film.
I always kinda liked Judge Reinhold. He played opposite Danny De Vito in Ruthless People and alongside Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop, among other roles.
Misattributing Kashmir is a major faux pas in my book.
According to “Live From New York”, the history of Saturday Night Live, Reinhold was a pain in the ass to work with and no one on the cast liked him when he hosted.
It was Roger Peterson who was the pilot. He died as well. It was quite the crash.
Then it’s a good thing I didn’t have to work with him.
I won’t mention the station to protect the guilty, but know of a DJ who put on American Pie one night and tried to go through the McDonalds Drive-thru which was a block away from the station. Made it through the drive-thru and back to the station only to find he’d left his station keys sitting next to the board when he left.
He was the only jock in the building during that daypart.
It was a painful call to the PD to explain why the station was off the air and why he needed the PD to come and let him back into the station.
Roger Peterson
Detroit radio had a strong history of playing good music regardless of the skin tone of the artists. They cared about the music not the race and went far toward bringing the races together. There's a YouTube audio of Peter Wolf and Magic Dick of J. Geils after-hours, after-concert interview: Peter Wolf & Magic Dick on WWWW (W4) Detroit - Part 1 in 1977, taking calls from fans. The background image is of fans in front of the concern billboard, after the concert, I assume, although I'm not sure of the exact circumstance. Either way, it's a classic Detroit scene.
I liked that song “Claire,” which played on the radio when I was a young child. But of course, “Alone Again, Naturally” was the one that wound up through the years.
Your post is worthy of an Alice in Chains Kashmir cover—live.

Thanks.
I think I got spoiled by the original LedZep version.
Do you know how the group got its name? It’s an interesting story.
