RIP. A very talented man.

I always enjoyed him in “Across 110th Street” and “The Thomas Crown Affair”.

RIP

Magnetic screen presence.

I heard some time ago he was a Republican

I rewatched every Bond movie a few months ago, I found “Live and Let Die” to be one of the weakest entries (though it had young Jane Seymour and a hot black chick), I read the book and it was a lousy adaptation, Kotto complained about the horribly written role but he did his best with it.

He was also on “Homicide: Life on the Street” as a Police Lieutenant.

Agree about “LALD”. I think it gets hyped because of the theme song and that it was Roger Moore’s first Bond. It’s not horrible, but it’s “ehhhh”.

That said, that movie could never be made today.

In the ‘70s, Bond tended to go where the popular genres were. They did Blaxploitation Bons with LALD, as that was popular in 1973. They did “Star Wars” Bond with “Moonraker”, as that was popular in 1979 (in fact, they jumped ahead of doing “For Your Eyes Only” to get MR out).

I read Moonraker too, nothing in common with the film but the name and the name of the villain, Drax is a lot more interesting in the book. Also it has Gala Brand as a Bond girl, I think the only book Bond girl who was not adapted.

Been meaning to read Diamond’s are Forever for a while now but haven’t yet. It’s film version also has little in common.

“Casino Royale” was a pretty faithful adaptation given that it was set like 60 years after the book.

Good books, I can see why they were among the first adaptions and franchises.

Didn’t Forrest Whitaker win an Oscar for a movie about Idi Amin?

I think that’s always been the situation with a lot of the books when adapting them to film. They take the title and the villain name and that’s it.
