The building isn’t going anywhere. Can’t they mothball it until things get back to normal?
To: irishjuggler
That’s what I thought, too.

Yes. Someone could buy it out, and pay for the name rights too.
But I suspect that this is an PR attempt to raise money. I didn’t look but I’m guessing that if there isn’t a gofundme now, there will be one in 5...4...3...

We are not made of as stern stuff as they were back then.
We have no courage left.

“It has no TV, it has no jukebox, it has no music. It’s a place where people come to talk to each other, to enjoy the traditional, historic surroundings. Generations of people have done that, students, townspeople, people from afar,” he said. The reason American bars have loud horrible music is studies show people having conversations drink LESS - cutting into profits.
Similar to restaurants happy with the 'no smoking' rules of the 80's because smoker tables don't turn over as fast...
And last, in the 60's some grocery stores came up with the idea of playing offensive music to stop lingering. It was 'build larger stores or move the people out quicker'... luckily that one didn't last.

Oddly, the one little tavern that is still open around here has a curtain, they used to secure the jukebox when dinner is served.
