Agreed. And it was a freshman QB. Not their starter. He was giving younger players reps. Why not let your freshman QB experience a full rep. Taking a knee is for closer games when the starters are still mostly in.
Back in the early 2000s, my son was on a high school football team and they were in a playoff bracket game. They were down and got very near the goal line. When they scored the touchdown, the whole team erupted with jubilance.
Yep, they were penalized with an excessive celebration call. The extra yardage didnt help the other team and we did win.
Penalizing high school kids for celebration has been going on for a long time. Of course, this WAS in California.

PERIOD."

I went to grad school with the Nebraska Chancellor and was pretty good friends during that time. I remember telling him that Nebraska was making a HUGE mistake when they left the Big 12. They cut their nose off to spite their face because, by God, they hated Texas.
His comeback to me was that Nebraska would benefit in many ways beyond athletics.
Yea, right.
I was taught that scoring from that close in the final minute when the game is no longer in doubt is bad sportsmanship, but who cares about sportsmanship any more?
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
