Why did the Chinese employ medieval/primitive weapons in their initial ambush?

Any word on that?

It is against the “rules” to use (have?) firearms in this area. I think it is a disputed area, and they figure the use of firearms will only increase the risk of escalation.

Until of course one side or the other decides to use them.

Hmm. Sort of like Seattle or Portland.

Supposedly guns are not allowed on the border, so clubs were the weapon of choice. But a number of Chinese had their necks broken by the Gurkhas.
