ERICKSON: Let The Cities Burn (Or Not)
The Daily Wire ^ | 25 Jul, 2020 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 07/25/2020 8:16:08 AM PDT by MtnClimber

There is no police power in the federal Constitution. The police power is left to the states. To the extent the President can send federal officers into Portland, Oregon, and other cities, it should be to protect federal property.

The President cannot save Portland from itself, and he should not. He cannot save the other cities either. I want a mask mandate, but there is no federal police power for the President to impose it. It must come from governors, who have more expansive police powers than your average libertarian-leaning person would have you believe.

The President does not have the power to issue mask mandates, and he does not have the power to send law enforcement to police the streets of America.

The people of Portland have a history of outlandish behavior and displays of protest, including nudity. The place is so bizarre there’s been an entire television show parodying Portland.

By sending federal troops to Portland, the President is not only allowing Portland an escape from their own democratic choices but also providing them with a scapegoat to take the blame. Portland can blame President Donald Trump instead of its residents. They can blame Washington instead of their mayor.

In Portland, the accounts of what is happening diverge. The President and his supporters claim he is protecting federal property and rounding up rioters who have vandalized the property. The media and Democrats claim the presence of these troops is unsettling the city, provoking protestors and arresting more than just those who vandalize property.

I am interested in comments on this as there are two interesting points on opposite sides of this argument.

Erick Erickson and others are on one side and believe that President Trump should let cities live with the consequences of their choices.

Dan Bongino and others are on the opposite side and believe that law and order should be enforced and that President Trump should send federal officers to do it if the local and state governments won’t.

How many federal storm-troopers were executed for murdering innocent gun owners and their families over the past 30 years or so under the orders from Democrats and RINOs?

So, why did this country engage in a civil war in the 1860’s? Thirteen states chose to secede. Lincoln killed hundreds of thousands of southerners to force federal supremacy.

Eric Erickson is full of it.

He doesn't even know what the heck he is talking about. You have border patrol, FBI, and when things get really out of control, The Insurrection Act of 1807 is a United States federal law that empowers the President of the United States to deploy U.S. military and federalized National Guard troops within the United States in particular circumstances, such as to suppress civil disorder, insurrection and rebellion.

Do your research Eric before you stick your foot in your dumb mouth.

If Erickson is passionately for something the President isn’t doing, it ain’t good for Trump. On a daily basis the loser twists and spins and bends over backwards trying to validate his NeverTrump stance - GOPe globalist he is.

Shut up Fat Boy.

Erick the Red is a Never Trumper, devoid if sny principle. His only take on this is to emadculate our PDJT.

Federal authority to enforce Constitutional rights is clear. Governors and Mayors are notorious for trampling on the rights of citizens.

Federal authority has beeen the last resort for freedom many times since the Bell first rang.

That’s where I quit reading. I knw Erickson is a Never Trumper, thus he’s an idiot. By wanting a mask mandate, he’s an even bigger ignoramus.

I haven’t studied the US codes to see if sending feds to patrol out of control cities is legal or not.

But it makes sense that if an intransigent municipality refuses to assert legitimate control, for the protection of the union, the feds should have a right to step in.

I think there are 3 dimensions to this discussion:

1. The BIG Twenty cities (NY, LA, Seattle, etc) geared their political system to the Democratic Party. It’s been that way for 30 to 40 years. For each riot/demo, with destruction...there is no outcome favorable for the city, if the Feds don’t pay for damage or reconstruction. More property tax can only come out of this.

2. If you gaze at the four big cities of the west coast, and measure up homelessness, drug use, etc...they are manufactured over the next ten years to become the next ‘Detroits’. Even Silicon Valley will become a dismal location and start-up IT companies will seek new locations in the south rather than mess with the SF/San Jose region.

3. Finally, all of this anti-police chatter is going to have consequences that linger (not just 2020/2021, but going through the whole decade). They won’t be able to recruit, and police will be less likely to take actions. Fenced in neighborhoods with private security ‘army’ thugs to protect them? Doesn’t that sound like Capetown, SA? I’ve been to Capetown and seen how security works. I see the same thing developing in LA and SF over the next decade.

The residents of each state are Constitutionally guaranteed a small “r” republican form of government. If Trump determines that in some states the government has ceased to function, either deliberately or unintentionally, and been replaced, effectively at least, with mob rule by a minority of violent anarchists he has the power to act in that state to try to restore republican government.

I believe the unrest in Portland, which is now the longest running protest in US history, is funded by those wishing to destabilize the rule of law, and with it, the presidency. It's being fueled and funded by our enemies.

The media is claiming the protests are peaceful, but note a riot friendly state (I think it was Minnesota) asked for federal funds to repair/replace 1500 buildings destroyed in the peaceful protests. Behind the fake news, the CIA and foreign enemies are fueling these protests which are just a front for longer plans of destabilization.

I found some real news about Portland which provide a citizen's synopsis of Portland Police Department livestreaming. (link to the website at the bottom)

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since there's a media blackout on Portland, other than claims that helpless moms are being "gassed by shock troops", someone  has been creating synopsis and REAL NEWS to tell the rest of us what is going on. Here are some excerpts.
"The Portland Riots, in their 58th night, are the longest-running civil disturbance in United States history. About a week ago I noticed that while the mainstream media wasn’t covering the riots the Portland Police were live-tweeting and live-streaming them almost like a nightly reality program. I decided to name it Portlandia Nights and began writing a synopsis each morning – this is my eighth synopsis and the 58th episode of America’s favorite reality program. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll continue to write these because honestly, every night is the same so I’m calling this episode “Groundhog Day”."
SNIP
"The previous night new fencing had been installed around the federal buildings that proved very difficult to breach or topple. Realizing that it was unlikely they would breach the fence very quickly the protesters divided the task of attacking the fence and attacking the building into two groups. The first group began using grinders and cutters in an attempt to disassemble the fence in certain areas. The second group began throwing bags full of garbage between the fence and the federal buildings setting them on fire. They also threw rocks, bottles, and other projectiles at the building. Earlier in the day, a judge issued a temporary restraining order against the federal police preventing them from arresting the press. Interestingly lots of the protesters seemed to have joined the press soon after his ruling."
Erick Erickson has crossed over into some alternative universe. It's not just in this article but others I have read over the last few years.
He is not what he used to be. When he became a full-blown NeverTrumper, I was done with him. He is outside of my circle of commentators nowadays.
Apparently Erick Erickson is as ignorant of the insurrection act as he is about everything else. This is a Marxist revolution Erick.
I agree. It does not take the NSA to figure out that BLM is a Marxist and a black supremacy group. Very similar to 0bama’s Black Liberation Theology.
Dan Bongino gave a superb counterattack to idiots like Erickson on hi Thursday podcast.
Bottom line: The federal government needs no state or local permission to go anywhere to enforce federal law, including the protection of federal property.
Erickson is a phony conservative.
