Armed homeowner fights off three armed invaders, killing two of them

WESLEY CHAPEL — Two armed intruders were shot dead and a third was wounded when a homeowner fired on them early Friday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner said he was inside his home playing video games when at about 12:43 a.m. he heard the glass of his laundry room door shatter, according to a sheriff’s report. He saw an arm reach inside to unlock the door. Then the homeowner said he saw a masked man walk in and aim a gun at him.

The homeowner said he grabbed his Glock 9mm pistol, which was just a few feet away, and fired several times at the intruder. He saw the intruder fall down, the report said. Then a second masked intruder entered the house, and the homeowner said he fired at him, too. That intruder also collapsed.

The masked men were aiming their weapons at the homeowner when they were shot, said Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco.

Some of Florida’s home invasions are drug related.

Some years ago there were a number of home invasions targeting old folks. Perps figured they were easy targets, breaking in sliding glass doors and robbing/sometimes killing the elderly. One elderly gentleman watching tv with his wife heard the door forced open. Being prepared, he pulled up a 12 ga. from beside the couch and reduced the popularity of that type of home invasion. Killed at least two if I recall correctly.

“They wore masks and gloves ....

At least they were being socially responsible.”

Great but did they do the social distancing thingy?

So the homeowner posted his cache on Social Media and boated about it apparently, thus inviting this incident is what the article reads.

Sounds like a brilliant guy! At least he killed 2 of them.

A kid and his mother in Americus, GA did the same thing a few years ago - more SM boasting and a quartet of thugs hijacked them, tortured them for an hour or so to get the safe combo. They ended up murdering them and taking all the stash only to get caught a day or so later.

Loose lips sink ships folks.

As I understand it, the home owner’s first mistake is to boast his fire arm collection on social media.

Nowadays it is tempting target.

Lick the bullets before loading. If the lead doesn’t get them, the covid will.

Still enters the house despite hearing gunshots after the first intruder broke in.

Probably thought it was his buddy doing the shooting.

Maybe Pasco county is a tough place, but generally speaking, Wesley Chapel has a lot of newer construction and lots of retail. Seemed pretty nice when I visited there in February.

Wow, not a good idea. Under any circumstance.

Florida has a high crime rate. People should consider that before moving there because of no income tax.

Cities have a high crime rate. You can find low crime areas of Florida, just like you can find low crime areas in New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

> Looks like the perps didnt know the homeowner (well enough) <

I couldn’t get the article to load. But I’ve read elsewhere that the homeowner liked to brag about his gun collection on social media. So the perps probably knew what just what was in their house.

The homeowner made a stupid mistake by bragging on social media. The perps made an even stupider mistake by assuming he’d be sleeping when they broke in.

2 dead bangers and one headed for death row. Maybe it wasn’t a mistake at all. If a kid drowns in your unprotected pool you can be held liable under the “attractive nuisance” doctrine. This homeowner seems to have done just that.

Wiki:
“The attractive nuisance doctrine applies to the law of torts in some jurisdictions. It states that a landowner may be held liable for injuries to children trespassing on the land if the injury is caused by an object on the land that is likely to attract children.[1] The doctrine is designed to protect children who are unable to appreciate the risk posed by the object, by imposing a liability on the landowner.”
