My guess is the guy that got robbed visited an ATM at the bank across the street from the grocery store. The robbers then followed him into the store to rob him..

Many SF Bay Area larger (chain) grocery stores have bank branches (fully staffed and/or with ATMs) right in the store, under the eye of cameras and security staff.
