In his continuing role as the NFL’s Neville Chamberlain — the British prime minister who appeased Nazi Germany until it was too late to prevent World War II — Roger Goodell continues to pander to the bad acts at the risk of imperiling the good and welfare — and value — of the NFL.
Goodell has proven he would rather offend the NFL’s most devoted, fair-minded fans than the league’s most offensive players.

As I’ve said many times before:

Goodell is perfectly willing to talk about #BLM or figure out a way to let players kneel during the national anthem. He probably feels that’s a manageable crisis which won’t effect revenues.
What he WON’T talk about is Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). That has potential to bankrupt the league and change the game dramatically.

I have my father-in-law’s leather helmet, and it is younger than 100. They may not have been as big, but they hit. Go look at the bloody photos of players during and after games from that era. Now, most players hardly wear pads, and hitting is a penalty.
This will kill their “season”, such as it is. I am very reticent about this all, but I am not going to patronize a BLM/NFL.
I played rugby for years. Lots of bleeds and bruises in that game, but the worst injuries are from football.
Get rid of the equipment, especially the helmets, and the players will adjust.
In the meantime, no NFL. It’s history.
Ahhh, memories of Pete Rozelle and the glory years of the NFL. Boy do I miss those days.
Goodell is scared to death of the player’s union. It’s that simple.
Rozelle or Tagliabue never would have allowed this to happen.

Broken noses, cauliflower ears, missing teeth and lacerated scalps are just nature's way of letting you know that your noggin is taking a beating, and that you should do something protect it. Modern protective equipment greatly lessons all of those injuries, and thus lessons nature's signals. But modern protective equipment does not keep your brain from bouncing around inside your skull when you get hit, or hit someone, hard enough.
Sammy Baugh was whip smart at 80. Many modern players are mumbling and shaking in their 50s.
Rugby: Elegant Violence.
The game was played on grass. Astroturf and other types of turf cause most of the concussions.
