Another day, another cancellation in the YA literature world. This time, author Alexandra Duncan has “voluntarily” withdrawn her book, Ember Days, because she failed to “stay in her lane”, basically.
In other words, a white woman wrote about a culture that isn’t hers.
The nerve of this woman to bully Alexandra Duncan, a white woman, into cancelling her original novel while she’s got a butchered Black Power version of Little Women in the works! The utter hypocrisy!

Write English. What the hell is a YA novel. Oh, Young Adult. Well just say so.
In the early days of the Nazi German regime, authors and artists were cancelled simply because they were Jewish. This is no different.
Irony is that most of this is driven by white women. The radical Marxist blacks are bad but the leftist women fuel all the fire. I have noticed this in Antifa rallies and riots. Millennial women and Karens have been weaponized to get Trump.

I have no problem “staying in my lane”; I’m quite content to live as though whole groups don’t even exist.
I don’t care what the views are of someone who decides they need to use profanity laced language. The author could have made a worthy contribution with just her ideas, but fails when it comes to how she insists on speaking.

I do believe eventually more blacks will start speaking up and saying “Enough of this crap”, this is all white people doing this to get people mad at black people and start a race war.
Which is really what this all is. Black people aren’t the enemy, White Liberals are!
I have actually brought this up, as well as the “reclaimed classics” novels that have people of color rewriting classic novels with their perspective. To say this is to be called racist.
For example, I’ve been told that blacks were stripped of their culture, so it is not appropriation if they claim/reclaim classic books and write it to further their narratives. Or co-opting white characters with black or gender-swapping roles, because that’s necessary to be fair.
One Christmas Eve many years ago I found myself with friends in a large city attending a midnight service at a German Protestant church.
The hymnals were not in the pews, instead the carols were printed in the Xeroxed programs. Much was made of the fact that the carols were gender-neutral — that is, all references to God and Jesus left out he/him’.
I thought it was a joke, but by the time the collection plates came around, my blood was boiling.
I marked up the program with red pen noting ‘these are not yours to change— write your own songs” and “this is how the Nazis got started” across the front.
I never went back.
