White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said on Monday the trade deal with China is "over," and he linked the breakdown in part to Washington's anger over Beijing's not sounding the alarm earlier about the coronavirus outbreak.
"It's over," Navarro told Fox News in an interview when asked about the trade agreement. He said the "turning point" came when the United States learned about the spreading coronavirus only after a Chinese delegation had left Washington following the signing of the Phase 1 deal on Jan. 15.

I love Trump... but outside of Pence, Pompeo, Mnuchin, McEhany, Kellyanne, Grenell, maybe Meadows and Lighthizer... he’s got real amateurs working for him (incl Javanka and his campaign managers).

I’m all in favor. Just be smart about it. We got our first rare earths mine and processing plant reopened recently. Repatriate pharmaceuticals and medical equipment as well as any defense components next. Once that’s done, keep steadily jacking up those tariffs. We need to make sure they cannot do serious damage to us by suddenly halting the export of anything vital. Then, go for it in earnest.
Navarro has done this at least a dozen times. Why does he still have the job?

Navarro is one of the best Trump has working for him. He’s a patriot and China hawk.
