Nobody seems to care about modern slavery. I don’t understand why.
People rioting in the streets this week referenced slavery that ended 160 years ago. But slavery that is going on right now? Crickets.
In other words, you have to sit through a Whitey Bad harangue before you can watch the show.
“Historical Context” should consist of “This movie is a work of fiction loosely based on historical events.” That sums it up.
Like the first black actress to receive an academy award was in it?

Turner had been running a short about racial depictions, black face and stereotypical situations where in black heaven giant size slices of watermelon dance around pork chops growing on trees and fried chicken is plentiful. Point being it’s better to acknowledge and have the discussion. This short seems to have disappeared after the riots started.

Historically, the Ashanti practised slavery. These slaves came about through warfare and battles in which they came victorious. The aim of slavery varied as different slave masters acquired slaves either to increase wealth or intermarry. On the larger scale, slaves could also be used for sacrifice during funerals ceremonies.
Indeed; I’ve yet to see anyone in the media (even on Fox News) slamming the Kente stole stunt, which is a pro-black-slavery display.
The fact that more europeans where taken by babary pirates and enslaved exceeded the number that were captured by their neighbors and sold out of Africa and shipped to American is pretty much ignored. Butt, history-——meh!
