Esper is daring Trump to fire him. Which means he is completely in on the coup now. Trump should fire his ass regardless. Another piece of garbage deep state operative. I can’t imagine what it must be like for Trump to govern with all these forces aligned against him. But he is a strong leader and we are with him and that’s all he needs.

In the late 1960’s I was in the Army. We trained for riot control. We were equipped with M14’s and bayonets. We wore helmet liners. If we were going to be deployed, we were going to be allotted a total of four rounds each. There were seven levels or escalation, It was the seventh where we would be ordered to shoot. Otherwise, we trained like Romans moving in formations with fixed bayonets pointed forward. We would not have done well with bricks and Molotov cocktails thrown against us unless we fired live rounds. We would have been better off equipped with short swords and shields. with real helmets.

Esper has to know that on Monday the “protestors”attacked the U.S.Park Service police with frozen water bottles, bricks and caustic substances and tried to grab a police weapon. That resulted in smoke canisters and pepper balls.
What is he thinking?
Esper needs to take his officially issued sidearm out and eat it. He is participating in an insurrection against the President.
At BEST capitulation/deescalation. There’s also a sense of using them as pawns - if they ARE attacked the story blows back on BLM and increase public support for real military use.
This might be good cop/bad cop - a very dangerous version of such.

It probably makes sense to have the national guard as backup to the cops.
That way if it comes to shooting, the local cops will have to be the ones doing it.
