Robert Mueller's Russia probe never would have happened if now-Attorney General William Barr was picked for the position in 2017 instead of Jeff Sessions, President Trump said Friday.
In a phone interview on "Fox & Friends" with host Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, and Ainsley Earhardt, the president said that Sessions was a "disaster" in his role and that, initially, he did not want to make him attorney general.
"I didn't want to make him Attorney General, but he was the first senator to endorse me. So, I felt a little bit of an obligation," Trump recalled. "He came to see me four times just begging me to be attorney general. He wasn't equipped to be attorney general, but he just wanted it, wanted it, wanted it. He was from a state that I love: Alabama. You know, I won Alabama by a tremendous margin."
"He wanted it and I said, 'Alright, Jeff.' You know, he was a smaller version of that in Alabama for a little while. He was a very average guy, I find out. But, he goes in — he was so bad in his nomination proceedings. I should have gotten rid of him there," he remarked.

So why didn’t Sessions do his job, as Trump urged, instead of turning it over to career DOJ personnel like Rosenstein, and Mueller to prosecute Trump? Was Sessions blackmailed, complicit, or simply ignorant? It’s one of the last few things left to be determined.
Sessions didn’t do his job.
He ‘recused’ himself and ducked responsibility.
Sessions thought he could sneak-in during the primary and become another Romney.

Sessions has never asserted himself at the Justice Department, Trump told Fox News in an interview broadcast on Thursday.
“The Dems are very strong in the Justice Department,” he said. “I put in an attorney general that never took control of the Justice Department, Jeff Sessions. Never took control of the Justice Department. And it’s — it’s sort of an incredible thing.”
“Sessions didn’t do his job.”
Sure he did. His job was to leave President Trump twisting in the wind. And he performed that job very, very well.

Sessions excuse for “recusal” was absolutely flimsy, and it was done at the height of the Russia-media frenzy. I think one of his reasons was something like he was at a cocktail party and spoke to the Russian Ambassador. And lo-and-behold, his recusal turned everything Russia over to Rosenstein and the absolutely corrupt Mueller to attempt a coup.
To me it smacks of conspiracy and treason. Even if he was “blackmailed” he should have kept his reputation and honor in tact and refused the AG job. Instead, he made himself complicit. And I find it hard to believe he is simply that stupid. Sessions can NOT be forgiven for this.

Trump is stuck with Wray until after the election. He would do well to insert a real lawman instead of another perfumed attorney from a prestigious law firm.
