I always treat police with respect in my encounters with them, which is rare. Not because of this either. Mostly not. It’s not even respect for authority. It’s because I know they have a shitty job to do sometimes; front lines with the worst aspects of society and I respect them for doing that job.
I just have to shake my head at it. It’s 99.5% the idiot’s fault for running, both in the car, and on foot, and shouting ‘F** You’, and for raising a hand up with something in it. But it still feels like instant death sentences not only preclude a chance for due process, but seem to be a massively unbalanced response to some really moronic decisions. What people like this don’t seem to understand is that police have to be ready in an instant to use deadly force to save their own lives, but it still seems like such a damned shame
