I mentioned on another thread earlier that something similar happened to me a few days ago. Verbally assaulted by a store clerk who didn’t think I should be out grocery shopping. She was on edge, and I could see that, but I was still startled.

How do you maintain social distancing and slap someone at the same time?

I never liked buffet restaurants either. Not because of health/sanitation concerns but because I just think the idea of one is a little gross. Inevitably, bits of food from one tray make it into the adjacent trays. I just don’t like that. Also the quality of the food is not the best. I’m thinking the typical buffet restaurants source their food on the cheap in order to keep their margins up. Which means a lot of the food might be rather close to its “sell by” date.

Is Shady Maple a buffet? These people are risk takers. Anybody who is immunosuppressed or on chemotherapy is usually warned to avoid buffets. Anybody who is ‘into’ social distancing shouldn’t even be there.

I suppose that, having not attended the Catholic schools, I had forgotten about the famous nun-knuckle-rap that makes strong men still cower.

Ah yes. Nuns have been practicing it for decades!

I went to a Catholic elementary school from grade 3 - 8.

All our teachers were nuns. I’d come from a public system where they didn’t teach script writing til 3rd grade but the Catholic schools taught it in 2nd grade so I learned to connect my block letters with a a little loop. ;-)

Once, maybe fifth or sixth grade, I will never forget, I was called on to read a passage from the book we were reading.

I was a reader from forever, proud of my well-read background but ran across, reading out loud, in class, the word “dilapidated” and pronounced it “” dilli-pet-dated”.

Some in the class tittered and I said a bad word.

It wasn’t the first time, but I was commanded “Front of the class - hands out out, palms down! Whap! Hard slap across my knuckles. Later I learned to keep my hands farther apart so she could only hit one hand.

Just a 12” ruler but man it hurt. “Back to your seat” was all she said. No lecture, no nothing. Just “Back to your seat”.

Nobody giggled or laughed after that. A similar fate awaited them.

Perhaps of no import to you but anytime I ran across a new word I’d look it up for its pronunciation.

Canapes were not “Can Napes”, They were “can a pays”.

Lots more and I still can’t spell “Hors d’oeuvres” (neither does this spell checker) but I know how to pronounce it. ;-)

Fred Sanford pronounced it horse divers. I’ve said that ever since. (not in public)

I’d be interested to know what you were served when you asked for horse divers. ;-)
