He needs to keep his mouth shut until after the money is sent out. Then he can bring up the constitutionality of the law before all the non virus stuff kicks in.

Where was the house speaker who should have been aware of the rules and made sure they were being followed.

Are the congress members essentially admitting they are not an “essential” operation?

This grandstanding accomplishes nothing except for taking away the Republican position that it was the Democrats that delayed the releasing of the virus aid. It will still pass, and the Democrats will use this to blame the delay on the Republicans.

The rules are the rules.

I have no problem with this. If Reps can’t do their jobs, they should resign. Let the chips fall. Then maybe we can elect a real leader.

Voice vote for something like this is inadequate. The names and votes should be "on the record".

That way, when all this settles, questions like "why did you approve funding for items that had nothing to do with the intended purpose of the bill?:

I hoped the bill would fail. Instead of adding 2 trillion to the debt, send everyone back to work and open up these shuttered businesses. Quick, before they are closed permanently.

A lot of small businesses are at the point of ending lease, and selling inventory, cancelling contracts - because with no revenue they can’t pay the bills. This is serious, folks. It takes years or even decades to build up a business - you can’t just turn it off and then turn it back on.

It is way past time to admit the closings were an overreaction. We need to reverse those decisions - and fast! Sure, we can stop shaking hands and touching handrails. We can wash our hands more often. If we have administrative jobs that can be done just as well from home - great. Skip the pointless meetings.

But we should resume going out to restaurants, shopping and entertainment events again. In fact go twice as often for a while to support these hurting businesses.

Just let’s not go out when we are sick, and try to keep our hands to ourselves. Just like we should do every flu season!

We panicked. We overreacted. President Trump’s enemies saw it as a chance to tank the economy before the election. Fine, we got snookered. Panic is contagious. Everybody makes mistakes.

Let’s admit we were wrong and let everyone go back to their jobs - quick while the jobs are still mostly there to go back to.

“Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” (1939)

Filibuster speech - Senator Jefferson Smith Collapses and Filibuster Ends

Mr. Smith: I guess this is just another lost cause, Mr. Paine. All you people don’t know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for. And he fought for them once, for the only reason any man ever fights for them. Because of just one, plain, simple rule: “Love thy neighbor.”

And in this world today full of hatred, a man who knows that one rule has a great trust. You know that rule, Mr. Paine. And I loved you for it — just as my father did. And you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others. Yes, you even die for them — like a man we both knew, Mr. Paine.

You think I’m licked. You all think I’m licked! Well, I’m not licked! And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause, even if this room gets filled with lies like these; and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place. Somebody will listen to me. Som ...

There is no real reason why congress can’t set up procedures for remote voting.
