Just stopped by a Walmart in central PA. Many shelves empty, but paper products were being restocked. Headache remedies, cold remedies, much depleted. Plenty of vitamins, however. Still no baby wipes or clorox wipes. And the parking lot was full of cars. I spoke with several associates and customers (not sure why, but strangers usually talk freely to me). The associates are stressed by difficult customers, and the customers are very unhappy. If the distribution center shuts down they will all get much unhappier.
Associate also mentioned that Walmart will allow paid absence if an associate is quarantined or tests positive. This is a huge relief to part-time employees, which most of them are.

A little bit of both.

I see this as being a onetime boon for cleaning supplies, paper goods, and shelf stable food supplies. To a lesser degree a one time boon for frozen goods.

It'll be followed by a dip in business as those supplies are used up. But let's face it. Some of that stuff is going to sit in pantry shelves until it's eventually thrown out years from now.

Some of the stuff might get donated to food pantries once the threat has passed.

I think we will all be a little more conscious of the need to keep certain supplies on hand going forward.

I don't know how deep warehouse supplies go, but I think the stores will probably be able to restock in short order.

Excellent.

My fellow Americans: never let a good crisis go to waste.

Please hop in the sheets and make like bunnies.

Thank you very much!

“ and there was no meat and all canned soup and other canned food gone as well. People are crazy. I was actually ashamed for the outright greed and selfishness on display.”

When you are supposed to hunker down for a month or two, you will need food. I don’t consider this as a moral failing.

“How are you going to eat all that stuff?”

Likely, one meal at a time, over weeks or months.

“I have plenty of food and supplies at home in the mountains.”

Ah ha! Outright greed!

Our big grocery was full of customers and some shelves empty. Some almost empty. About three quarters of shelves still have some food. If you can’t get lentil soup you can still get veggie soup. Cashiers tired and computer system backed up so u have to wait for your change. But u can get most things. Paper products all gone. Burger place no line and fast service.

I walked though Wal Mart the other day and saw the same outages. Did see plenty of female products and some wet ones left.

Two local supermarkets near me are low on paper products but nothing else seems different. Cashiers and customers all seem fairly mellow.

This was a normal shopping trip, not a hysteria panic-buying trip. Bought lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (navel oranges are REALLY good right now), some crackers, frozen dinners, cookies, butter and some other staples. Stocks were a tiny bit low here and there for these items, but nothing major. I didn’t see anybody else panic-buying, either. So far people believe that food is going to be produced and delivered just fine. If there’s a hint of supply disruption for food, all bets are off.

I just received an Amazon order of four cans of Clorox Citrace 49100 Hospital Germicide yesterday. Today Amazon is sold out.

I’d love to get more sanitizing wipes, but cannot find those anywhere locally. I’ve been trying to find the EPA-Approved wipes that are thought to kill COVID, but no luck. There were some Oxivir TB wipes at Staples online Thursday night; I should have clicked “Buy” because Friday morning they were sold out (and still are).

Maybe we need to bring back the ration cards like they had in WWII. This is ridiculous.

Here in South Jersey everything is normal. The Shoprite did have less red meat and chicken while the beans and toilet paper were decimated. We have had 1 diagnosed Coronaite to the best of my knowledge and zero in my Township. Where I used to live (Montgomery County PA) is a hot zone. I would easily think it would be reversed but North Jersey is just full of it typically.

zero cases in ID so far

Sadly, Idaho now has two cases. West Virginia is the last clean state, the winner of March Madness.

I suppose there are two possibilities:
1. Hell, let’s throw caution to the wind! Let’s have a baby!
2. We are so bummed out and petrified by all of this that who cares about making whoopee?

Not greed. I always keep a supply in case of an earthquake or whatever. Extra gas, propane, generator, guns, ammo, plenty of well water. I’ve been prepared for years. Prudence. Prepared.

It’s not a full SHTF yet, not by a long shot. But that could change overnight when the food runs out and the sewage and water plants shut down.

Borrowed from another Freeper. Not originally mine. But, super funny!
